How do I unlock my Nokia 6310i?
Why do these people lock phones anyhow?
I have a Nokia 6310i that I want to give to my mother in law.
I tried http://www.trycktill.com/unlock_swe.asp to unlock, but the number was incorrect. I don't know what I should put in the boxserial?
Nokia 6310i
Vodafone UK
IMEI: xxxx
Firmware v5.51 08-07-03 NPL-1

Guys
I have done a search & I have used a site to generate the codes. The codes don't work. I have one try left & there's little point in my trying another free site.
Jack has mentioned to me that the phone may never have been locked, but may still give an error message if I try to unlock it. That seems possible to me, but I don't know anyone with another provider, so can't test it.

Hi Guys,
you'll find only Orange and T-Mobile lock their phones to their network. O2 and Voda phone's are SIM free, ie. never locked so don't pay to get them unlocked !! The only exceptions to this are some of their early PAYG handsets which were simlocked - ie. locked to the SIM card they came with. This stopped people buying PAYG phones and then using them with pay-monthly SIM's.
The 6230i is a new phone and the online unlocking services can't unlock anything past DCT4 ( I believe ?). Nokia have long since wised up to the online calculators available and have implemented new checksum's etc. My guess is either pay the network(if on Orange or T-Mobile) else just wait for the software to be realeased.
hope i've been of help,
Jai

Hi,
sorry guys - just seen it said 6310i and not 6230i - in which case you should be able to pop into your local phone shop (not Crapfone Whorehouse or the LInk) and get them to unlock the phone.
One other thing I forgot to mention is that some phones have a SIm lock which means you need to put in the original SIM and then turn off this feature. Don't confuse the two things else you'll end up paying for something you don't need. Be wary of some of these mobile dealers as they have a habit of talking out their a*se !
