ipod,bizarre behaviour!!!!!!!!!!
Hi guys.
Bought my ipod a few weeks ago. Copied some songs from my cds and bought some from the itunes site. Took the ipod on holiday, everything fine for a week then the itunes tracks w'ont play. All the others will just not the purchased ones!!!
A few days after purchasing the music the credit card I used was lost so I cancelled it. Could this be the reason?? But how can that happen if my ipod is not connected to the internet. Very confused!!!

If it is just the itunes dowmload ones, then i have the answer. The songs that you have purchased go into a folder in itunes right. make a new folder call it what ever you like...name of artist, band etc.. and burn them through itunes on to a CD. Then delete them from itunes in purchased music, library and the folder you made to copy them to from purchased music. then import them from the cd as you would normally.
I hope that this makes sence.
I had the same problem, but i asked on ipodlounge.com for the answer and thats what they told me.

What happens when you connect the iPod to the machine (mac or PC?) and run iTunes and try to play one of the 'protected' tracks?
I purchased some music at work the other day, got home, plugged in ipod to my lappy and I could not play the new songs from iTunes. I also kept getting some annoying dialog asking me for my .Mac/AOL account info, and I'd been dimissing it. Then I remembered, the machine has to be authorised to play the songs, and the dialog I had been ignoring was iTunes asking for authentication, once I did that, wham, I could play them.
Now, that should *not* stop them from being played on the iPod.
Do the tracks play at all on the iPod? don't suppose they start to play for about 2 seconds, then stop do they?
How did you get the tracks onto the iPod?
Can you give us an example or two of the tracks you purchased?
As far as I'm aware there are no time limited tracks on the iTunes Music Store, and if there were I would have thought Apple would have updated the iPod so it displays some message when you try and play a song that has expired.
I'd also ask on ipodlounge.com, they tend to know their stuff on there.
The only problem like this I encountered was that I ripped about 50 CD's on a PC, put them onto a Mac formatted iPod, they played ok through iTunes, but not on the iPod itself. The only conclusion I could come to was that in ripping them, the PC was not storing some information that the Mac formatted iPod needed, or it stored it in a different location.

Do these songs play in iTunes?
When you download a track from the store, it becomes authorized to play on upto 5 PC's and an unlimited number of iPods. But the computer that you sync the iPod with must be authorised to play these tracks otherwise it will not play them on the iPod.
I think if you try to play them in iTunes it is going to ask you to "Authorize this computer" enter your account details and click "Authorize" and you should be ready to roll then.
If the computer is not authorised it will not sync them to your iPod
If it still won't play them then you have a faulty iPod and need to give Apple Support a call 0870 876 0753.
There are no time limits on iTunes tracks
