Default Car Park attendants and car tax..

Im looking at buying a car this weekend... IF all goes well, this car doesnt have tax on it... due to a couple of akward reasons I wouldnt be able to get tax on it either for a short while... Where do I stand being a new owner of this vehicle? I would like to be able to use it straight away. Can I park the car in a car park without thinking the car park attendant can get me done for not having tax???? If a copper pulled me how could I prove Im waiting on the V5 for the tax? would I be given lee-way? I plan on using it at least a week after I bought it but again I doubt the V5 would be here to tax it???

any advice?

You can take the new owners slip and go to your local VRO and they will tax your car.
Done it many many times.

A lot of local authorities will fine you if you use their car parks without a valid VEL. Their intention to do this will be posted on the terms and charges board over a pay and display machine.

UK300-199 whats a VRO? post office I presume? the problem is, the car is not being used at present, its off the road and uninsured... and we all know we need an insurance certificate to get a car taxed..... its 1 of the many little probs stopping me get the car this weekend (which ideally I'd like to do )

So you cant drive it on the road if you dont have insurance youre going to have to tell dvla its of road and then maybe you can park it in some ones garage or off road.

no. when I arrive on saturday to pick the car up (hopefully) I'll just bell my insurance company and give them the details there and then (already been quoted on it) so it'll be insured and MOT'd... just no tax... hence the tax question

You can tax it monday with the old V5 piece you get, as long as your cover note/policy drops through the post monday morning. You most likely won't have any trouble will plod beecause you'll be taxing it the minute it's possible - despite how some come across on here and the stories we're told they're not all assh0les. Your biggest risk is from carparking or a traffic warden because they're even more jobsworthy than coppers.

J2S.... tax it with that little green slip... u sure? never heard of this before?????

the other prob is its registered as a 2600cc (high tax bracket) but Im going to have to change it to a 1300cc (can ya guess what it is yet...lol) for the lower tax bracket. u think Im gonna have to pay for the higher tax and cash it in once its been changed and re tax it again????

I remember reading about someone else who thought their RX7/8 should have been in the lower tax bracket at 1300, but after a battle with the tax office they gave up as the tax office said that 2600 was the "equivalent volume" of a conventional cylinder engine.

Dave, I certainly got my Saxo taxed with the old V5 and the Post Office sent it off. Thinking about it I'm uncertain as to whether the dealer let me have the portion he was supposed to send off as well as the part I was supposed to keep. Can't be 100% on that now.

As jiggerypokery says; the RX7/8 is definitely in the 2600cc taxation class. Followed 2 fresh Jap RX7 imports down the M1 last Sunday morning, still bearing Jap plates on one. Awesome sound and effortless looking acceleration as they played with each other in and out of the outside lane. I was impressed and I'd certainly be tempted to have one on looks alone if it wasn't for the horror stories that come with them.

RX8 size is irrelevant as it's taxed on emissions RX7 on other hand IS & i have the DVLA agreed to this in writting a 1308cc based on 2x 654cc rotors. however then the fun starts as they allegedly have a document whereby they can double size for rotary engines. I have this document & it states it refers to use for emissions which i keep meaning to go back & argue with them about being irrelevant & to make mine 1308 on V5 as it's pre emissions based.....been a bit slack so far thou big thread on mazdarotary club about it
