Default DIY flight bookings

We (2 passengers) want to fly from Bristol (UK) to Denver, Colorado next March. I have the following options on KLM:

KLM UK web site, Bristol - Denver, via Amsterdam ...£1007
or
KLM UK web site, Bristol - Amsterdam ...£197
KLM NL web site (in English!), Amsterdam - Denver ...E901 == £620
...so £817 all in

Any reason not to go for the latter?
- Is it OK to buy flights from the Netherlands in Euros over the web?
- Would we be able to be checked in for the transatlantic flight at Bristol check-in

I would phone KLM, but they don't advertise any phone numbers on their web sites. Seems they've gone 'internet only'

Have also looked at expedia, opodo and travelocity. Nothing better available. Suggetsions for other places to look please...

TIA, Martin
