Question Possible spoof paypal e-mail

Just had a strange e-mail supposedly from Paypal, but just addressing me as "Dear Paypal User", which I was sure I'd seen on their site, is NOT the way they address e-mails to you.

Sure enough I checked, and it's probaly a spoof, but what was it for? It didn't ask me for any details, just to click on a link, which I didn't do.

Anyone else had similar?

The link, although it LOOKS like it points to paypal, will no doubt take you to the scammer's website where you will be asked to enter your details into a carefully crafted replica of paypal's site! A classic and well know scam.

If nothing else, clicking on the link tells them that your e-mail address is ready, waiting and willing for loads of spam to come.

Alcazar,

Can you post up the e-mail header information and i'll do some checks for you.

if you use outlook right click the e-mail in the inbox and go to properties and copy/paste the internet header info

Or the link will try and download a Backdoor worm on your PC and try to obtain details you might have stored on your PC in your cookies etc
Or logs key strokes and passes them on to that site or person

Can't do that, I just deleted it and told them it was junk. But I DID report it to Paypal, with the full works.

I never clicked on the link, so I should be ok?
