Thames Valley Police - Speeding Course in place of Points!
A friend has just completed this course at Crowthorne, instead of getting points.
Interesting course he said.
He was flashed at 36MPH and was told he could do this course ..... apparently TVP have 280 Speed Cameras and how many do you think are operational at any one time??
Go on, guess??

18!!!!
yes, 18!!!
Why? because they cannot process what they would have if they had more operational!! and too many people would hit 9 points/ 12 points very quickly!
And they don't think that the economics of the area would cope with it!
BTW those doing over 40MPH in a 30MPH do NOT get offered this course and, they say, there are 2 types of speeding drivers ................
Kiddies of 17/18/19 and the 45+ range ...
The kids for obvious childish reasons, but the 45+ because they weren't brought up with being caught speeding - it just didn't happen in the 1970's!
Apparently, the 25-45 age range are very well educated and do not speed regularly and don't drink and drive!
Now. considering hardly any speed camera is operational and the 25-45 year olds don't speed .............. anyone on here in that age range and caught by a camera are completely out of kilter with their peers!
Interesting

We dont need anymore than 18 camera's, they are so expensive. and everyweek they get moved arround so you dont know which gatso is live until you get zapped. It is the case probably all around the country, many gatso sites and few camera's. It would not be possible to buy camera's for every gatso...you rate payers cant afford it. And we dont have the staff, the time or the inclination to process every single gatso.
The course in lue of points is a good scheme for the company who run it, they are getting rich at your expence. If it were up to me. i would put more traffic cops out on the road and get rid of the speed camera gatso sites. But hey i am not the man who can.

As you may well know, revenue generated from cameras has to go back into road safety scheme's, be it more cameras or paying to run these courses....i think it was two years ago that TVP caught so many people, made so much money, that they couldn't physically spend the money and ended up giving it back to central government to spend on national road safety....now that is a lot of speeders in TVP
