Biarritz

What type of place is it ? Is it smart or fairly casual ? What is there to do ? We are a bunch of late 30's guys who will probably end up spending too much in the Casino but wondered what else this time of year there is to do ?

The casino is mostly slots, in fact last time I was there (last December) no tables at all which is a pretty poor state of affairs IMHO.
As for the rest Biarritz is a surfing town as far as night life goes. Just make you way up from the obvious Hoegaarden/Leffe bar near the casino towards the main drag and enjoy the surfer babes.
Remember also that this is a destination for Parisiens at the weekend, so lots of great restaurants but pricey. As most places make your way from the seafront for better prices.
If the sun is shining then your luck is in, lots of bikini babes on the beach. Remember that you are only 30 mins by train from San Sebastian in Spain which is about the best place in the world if you are into food/women/counter-culture.
Also an hours train ride from Biarritz you have this weekend the "Grand Prix Historique de Pau" usually won by brits in elderly grand prix machinery like James Hunt's 76 Championship winning F1 car.
If you want to go shopping to keep the women back home happy you could do worse than visit "Galleries Lafayette" slap bang in the middle of town for perfume etc.
Enjoy it's a great place.
Smart or casual will work, just no England football/rugby shirts please! Unless of course you want to be labelled low life English thugs. Same as most places really.
