Any Belgian scoobynetters help me with a question on registering and taxing a car in Belgium ? Specifically around the cost of first registering and then annual car tax. I'm also told the insurance is astronomical, is this the case ?

Nope,you're correct,Belgium truely sucks

Anywaylast year a friend of mine Imported a German registered 9 year old Lotus Esprite into Belgium

In the first place he took it to a main dealer who sva'd for it for Belgian use.
The cost was 200 euros

Next he had to take all his vehicle paperwork and documents to the Car Control(like an MOT centre) and then Customs.
No cost

Then he had to go to Brussels to collect his registration papers and new Belgian no plates...and pay a 1 off tax of 1200 euros(this may be dependant of the value of the car but I don't know)

He currently pays around 300 euros a year road tax and he estimates his car insurance to be about 1500 euros(he's 30 btw)

Could you not buy a LHD British registered car and use that over there? Would work out a lot cheaper.
