Caring for Teak garden funiture..?
About to take delivery of a Teak garden furniture set (only went to the garden centre to look ) and have been looking at what's requiered in the way of care. Teak oil seems the universal application to maintain it's looks for the longest, but also came across this..

It's the "Cleaner and Brightner" I'm interested in. Has anyone used this stuff before? Obviously I'm thinking ahead for when/if it gets dirty...

Only ever used teak oil, the non-flammable bit appeals though. Mrs SWRTWannabe refuses to teak oil our furniture ( leaving it to me ) after she read the bit about "soak rags used to apply teak oil in water to prevent spontaneous combustion"

Used to have one of those teak pagoda things in the garden. Never bothered to care for the wood and it lasted all of three years before it fell apart. I was really glad to take it to the dump as it had rotted badly by then as our "summers" go from April-September/October. Decided that instead of replacing it with another one, I'd by one of those huge big parasol jobs which you crank up so that it swings out and over the table and chairs. Result! 10 times less expensive, less hassle, better coverage from the sun and nothing to box you in.
Morale of the story is that if you buy teak you'd best look after it if you want to get your money's worth out of it.

Thanks chaps...
I intend to look after it (it costs enough)... so not too bothered about putting in the time to clean/protect it properly. Just looking for the right stuff to do it with..

Did Teak oil for a couple of seasons on our tables.chairs and 'sun loungers' , all teak wood and just painted it ast teh start of the summer before putting them out. First thing is don't do too much as it makes them a bit greasy.
In the 3rd season I went for a stain protector that was teak coloured. That lasted 2 years now and the stuff all looks OK and isn't rotting. It of course warps a little bit and splits out but its fine. We do however put it away in the garage at winter. Sunlight actually has a more damaging effect than water
