Do you have white and red phono plugs on the kit? (Probably near a yellow one) = these should be your left and right audio channels.

It may be easier if you explain exactly what connectors you have on what kit, including colours and any labels.

Hi there

Your Samsung is capable of HDef pictures with the right source, although your Denon package won't support it. (you have two digital interfaces on the screen - HDMI & DVI-HDCP) - somthing for the future maybe?

Anyway, I see you have two simple choices:

1) Use Component as you are now (which is only video signals) and use the standard phono output on you Denon to connect up to the phono input on your screen - there may be a menu option on the Denon to determine which sockets output sound - there is on mine, but it's an AVR2805;

2) Try using RGB. I've got Denon kit, and you'd be VERY impressed how good RGB can be - I find it slightly softer, especially with LCD screens which can be almost too vivid sometimes. RGB carries sound as well (assuming you get a fully connected SCART) - which would solve your problem. Make sure you get a good quality scart lead - gold plated - it makes all the difference.

Cheers

prob stating the obvious here but are you using a Digibox for cable / Satellite TV - if so there should be an optical output or the like for sound which can go straight into your Denon..
Sorry if I'm misunderstanding..

Tell us the model numbers / names of your components and we might be able to help.

Is it something like this: http://www.denon.co.uk/site/frames_m...detail&Pid=152

Because if it's anything like my Sony DAV-S800 as the amplification is built in the only sound output is to its speakers. There is no sound output to the TV.

Edit: Sorry somehow skipped over the end of your post with the model numbers. Mustn't speed read.

Anyway, the spec says it has one lot of outputs, looking at the back panel:

It looks like you have an optical out - no good for the TV I suspect, SCART, and the Video 1 interface - not sure how that's wired.

From what you say audio out is present at the SCART - so why not get a SCART to phono lead (wired to audio out, not in!) and feed in the sound that way.

When you're playing a DVD, I assume the sound channels are switched internally within the Denon system. Hence it all works fine.

When watching TV, you need a TV output to the Denon's input. There are a number of options for this f*cking up.
- Phono connections tend to be one way traffic. Are you using the right ones (TV audio output)
- Output RCAs on the TV aren't enabled.
- Wrong input selected on the DENON.

...my guess is something like the above...

You could try coupling up a CD player or similar to the DENON inputs until you get a signal. Equally, you could amp. up the TV output RCAs to prove they work.

Still over my head....
this IS the rear of the DENON

Rang DENON UK today and thay say connect up to the L+R on the VIDEO 2.
bring in the cables from the L+R (white and red) on the TV... these are next to the Companant GREEN + BLUE + RED sockets.

Rang Samsung and the guy says you use the L+R next to the RGB sockets too... then that goes in to the Denon at the video 2 sockets.

Been into Currys and the guy there says the same... BUT still use the scart to pump round the sound!!
is that correct?

USE THE.... RGB (for picture) + L+R (for Sound) and still use the SCART???????

Phil,

Just looking at the specs it doesn't show the TV as having dedicated phono Audio outputs only scarts and coaxial/optical digital in.

Is that right?

I spoke to Phil earlier and at present he is using a standard anologue RF TV signal.
There are no Audio phono sockets on the TV only the two scarts.

So it's either keep the scart and watch RGB.

Or use component for picture and use a scart to phono lead or coverter to output the TV's audio to the amp.

sorted it.
tnx to logiclee for looking and thinking about it.
also rang samsung UK up again yesterday and the Guy there was better than the guy the day before... he said there is no Audio OUT on the Tv!!!!!
But he said (like lee also pointed out) go for a Scart to phono socket... but make sure the Scart to phono is OUTPUT.
went back to Currys and got the right cable (MonsterCable £44.99) and the Tv now works spot on with DVD+Tv for sound through the denon
