Red face And we think UK Speeding Traps are bad.....

Just received the following e-mail from a pal of mine who lives in Italy. It's not a wind-up btw.

"Which reminds me, I got a speeding fine on a dual carriageway that was marked 70 kph but turned out that the bit I was on 100 yds before the sign was 50 kph, even though not signposted. I was clocked at 65 kph which is 15 kph or 10 mph over the limit. There were several other cars going faster so the hidden Police must have had a field day. This was 5 years ago. It's just come through now and cost me an obligatory 2000 Euros in court and solicitor costs and 4560 Euros in a fine. Total 6560 Euros or 4525 UKP. And they say that it's Britain that's the rip off."

Well, I sympathise - but Britain's speed-obsessed 'safety' regime IS a ripoff. The fact that it's worse elsewhere in the world doesn't change that.

How are drivers supposed to have known about the change anyway? Are there other rules in Italy about speed limits based on things like street lights or number of lanes?
