Default MP3 download site

Is this place for real?

http://www.mp3search.ru/

Some silly prices for tracks eg:

http://www.mp3search.ru/album.html?id=22864&ref=3970

You upload money to your account then spend it on downloads.

Seems a very professional site, but do you think its above board or they just rip off the credit cards???

Had no problems with the credit card.

they have lots of Rock/metal on there so it keeps me happy

plus you are paying in American dollars so $20 credit is about 11 quid

depending on the exchange rate.

yup all individual tracks are just 10 cents

a whole album is about $1 depending on amount of tracks.

And the all can be downloaded straight into I tunes ready for your Ipod

I tunes also compresses the files on your computers hard drive
I have 23.7 hours of tunes taking just 1.3 GB thats 365 songs

That's Russian copyright law for you; it's not the only site offering a similar service based on the payment of nominal fees to ROMS, the Russian Organization for Multimedia & Digital Systems, in return for the 'right' (my quotes, btw) to provide music downloads.

Whether or not it's legal to use from the UK remains a topic of some debate though.

I plead ignorance

to be fair, 99.9% of my music is on cd, but there are a few old albums I wanna get on the ipod tonight as I'm off away on business tomorrow for a week.

I do feel a bit wary of giving a russian site all my details, although my cards are all protected you hear nightmare stories of identity theft.

The bit rate varies on the site

some of the earlier music 80's stuff say is 128bit rate

new stuff is anything from 128 to 320

True Andy but until it gets stopped who cares its cheap music and virus free

BT broadband was doing a similar service also but its more exspensive and they don't have nowhere near the amount of back catalouge that MP3search does

call me old-fashioned, but things I like, I buy.

only time I ever download non-legit stuff is where it doesn't warrant purchase, ie maybe I only like a couple tracks.

probably stems from seeing games I have almost killed myself making on warez sites, however, I would rather see somebody playing one of my games for free, than not buying it and not playing it at all. that is also the views of many artists who create entertainment, but of course people usually cannot be seen to 'endorse piracy'.

my feeling is that the world would be a better place if people were able to see shades of grey, and not just black-and-white / good and bad.

As with other 'talents', the actual artist is no-longer the dictator of his destiny.......we come down to the corporate fat-cats who , well, .....dictate.....

Edcase,

In that case, you're probably better off going out and buying CDs. Whatever the legalities, a site which is charging 10 cents a track can only be paying the artists a pittance. The fact that the sites are legal thanks to a loophole in Russian law doesn't change that.

There's also the worry that if it's proven to be illegal under UK law to buy from the site, a list exists with the c/c company that has your name and address on it. So, "but until it gets stopped who cares its cheap music and virus free" won't help if it's you that's broken the law and not the site.

I wouldn't need to use the site if cd's where more competetivly priced

i have a site somewhere that you can buy cd's legaly like but they are a third the price that they are here and even with postage its a big saving i'll have to take a look on my other computer and list it up

www.mp3sight.com know nothing about it and have not even d/loaded anything from it due to not having an mp3 player yet !!!!
its just a site I once was given should I ever need it ??!!

looks simple enough to use and looking around certainly seems to have a fair bit off stuff.

anyone want to have a look and tell me what you think ??

Ive been using it for months with no problems, beats all the problems you get with all the p2p stuff with varying bit rates or not getting what you thought you were getting etc.

Ive been getting aload of beatles stuff off there because of the epic 'apple' trademark battle you wont see any beatles stuff on itunes.
