Yes it could have been related to Tax as it did seem an odd set up. (BTW whats ANPR stand for ???)

Automatic Number Plate Recognition.

i.e. look up your number instantly, find out if you're delinquent on tax, insurance, MoT, etc., if you are, fire up the T5 and put the lights on :-)

A much better use of police time than sitting around with the laser gun if you ask me!

Question

Was the trap in the North or South part (when separated by the Hampton in Arden roundabout).

This is just out of interest, because i do tend to "enjoy" the section nearest the Stonebridge island, but am always cautious on the other half. No hard evidence - just gut feel, but if they were lurking at the North end then i may have to review my mental maps

Between the Hampton in Arden roundabout and Balsall Common, on both sides of the dual Carriageway. You couldnt really miss them but like you say, I am always wary of that stretch too.

yep i agree with that, saw the same set up recently in ilford when visiting some friends, pulled two cars with illegal number plates and a clapped out ford escort, i was drinking a thick shake as i passed the camera and dropped it quickly (just in case) then did not get pulled in, heaved a huge sigh of relief and congratulated boys in blue spending my money wisely.
