Diesel prices
#6
Driving past my local Sainsburys this morning and noticed that the Diesel was priced at 87.9! I thought that was extortionate but looking at all your other prices, its one of the better ones! (Bedfordshire by the way...)

When they were having a price war and Sainsbury matched Tesco at 80.9p per litre; I made the mistake of stopping there the other day and they were 4p per litre dearer on diesel. I know that its only 4 pence but that would have £2:60 of gratuitious profiteering had I filled up before I realised; it really pisses me off. I noticed that Tesco in Chesterfield were considerably dearer last night; I wonder if theyd ever consider selling milk for more in an area where there was less competition, the crooks.

Sod 90p.....try 46p a litre for cooking oil at aldi/netto etc .
Works the same as diesel. Mix 60% oil and 40% diesel and 50/50 in winter.
330,000 miles on a transit can't be wrong can it.

I was behind a transit the other day and I thought someone was having a BBQ, then I realised that I'd been able to smell the bbq for miles and it dawned on me hahahaha
Si, At the mo both Sainsbury's and Tescos are the same, I think they keep tabs on each other

It depends on your fuel pump; Lucas type pumps dont do very well with it but Bosch ones will pump anything. You can experiment with a little petrol I suppose but not too much as it will run very 'hot'.
My Citroen (Bosch pump) fared pretty well on it during the fuel protests, but it smelt like a chip shop!

I forgot to say: vegetable oil thickens in Winter and you really need a warming device in the fuel supply, but in the Summer youll be fine.

Takes a while to catch up with current trends but this might help http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/fuel/.

International costs are interesting - see http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/fuel/motfue001.html In most countries diesel is cheaper. According to the AA tax is the same for both petrol and diesel here, so why has diesel become so much more expensive here?

....you need to be careful using vegetable oil if your diesel engine has a turbo.
No problems with non turbos on German injection system. Have a look at the dieselveg.co.uk web site. They do conversion kits.
I use a 50/50 mix in colder winter conditions or even a 30%oil 70% diesel if the temp drops below 6 degrees C. The viscosity of veg oil will thicken when it's cold so you don't want too much in your tank after a cold winters night. The rest of the year i use upto a 70% oil mix.
The first diesel engines were designed to run on Vegetable oil and not mineral diesel.
Also remember that although it is perfectly legal to use vegetable oil as a fuel, because it's being used as a fuel it is subject to both VAT at 17.5% to customs and Excise and Fuel duty of 27p a litre. You can obtain the appropiate forms to declare this. However, declare just a very small % of what you use.
With the milage i do a year i save myself over £2000 a year on the cost of Diesel........which gets spent on optimax
