If the public services were a private business - they'd have gone bust years ago.

If ex-public sector monoliths like BT have withdrawn final salary pensions 4 years ago - why should public sectors continue to fund them through *our* money.

Recent statistic - Public sector creates 20% of national pension contributions - but has 40% of national pension liabilities

True.It was Labour that stopped people's benefit if they didnt look for work.In the 80's when the Tories were in i knew loads of people who abused the dole system and the Tories did nothing.
I never listen to anything they say.Judge them on their actions.

That's probably more to do with the company you keep rather than the party in power...

You have to look at where the money is being spent. Its all very well throwing shed loads of our money at it but if you dont ensure it is being spent at the sharp end then it just won't work. The money is being wasted in higher salaries for the managers and in employing a vast bureaucracy to run all the checks that NL insist on and which are of no practical use anyway. The paperwork takes up all the workers' time to produce instead of doing the basic jobs concerned. That is the main reason we dont see any police on the streets these days for example. If they stop someone to question him they have several minutes worth of report to write about it! Doesn't really encourage them to do the job. They are spending all their time in the office doing paperwork.

All these "targets" which NL set everyone just ensure that the easier jobs rather than the urgent ones are done first! What a way to run a country. If you stop all that waste then the money available instead of being wasted will mean more can be spent in the right places and less will be needed in the first place. People might then have enough time to do the jobs properly as well.

It shows a typical lack of trust in people to do their jobs by an authoritarian leadership.
