Can't say I object to that half as much as most of the other schemes in the works. I actually believe that sharing a car with a mate or colleague is a pretty good way to save money and relieve congestion. After all, however inaccessible someone's workplace may be by public transport, there's a reasonable chance that someone else who also works there lives reasonably nearby and who can provide a lift. The impact of sharing a ride with a colleague is much less than wasting hours waiting for overcrowded buses and trains, and a dedicated lane is an incentive to save time queueing - especially as it would appear to be a new, additional lane rather than one stolen from the existing carriageway (which would only make things worse, of course).
I won't be writing letters about this one - in my experience these lanes actually do work in the US where they're common. They're about 1000 times more enlightened than endless stretches of empty bus lanes!

At the company where I used to work, one of the guy's who had a company car used to give me and another guy local to us, who didn't have company cars, a lift to work & back.
When the boss retired, his daughter took over, and one of the first things she did was issue a letter to all staff who got a lift in in company cars saying that the mileage required to collect us and drop us off was going to be calculated, deducted from the car drivers fuel allowance, and recovered from our salaries monthly
Needless to say, it was quickly pointed out to her that such action, besides not endearing her to her new empolyees, was probably not even legal! Shame it didn't occur now, in the current political climate we could probably get the bitch arrested or at least interned without trial as a subversive
Just before I left she tried to give me a written warning for having an 'inappropriate' message on my mobile answerphone, even though it was my own personal property!

According to the article, the section on the M25 under consideration is due to be widened to 6 lanes anyway.

How this for a crazy idea, let's enforce the following:
Drivers with no driving license.
Drivers with no insurance
Drivers with no road tax
punishment: automatic impound and sale of vehicle
With estimate of offenders of the above being around 20-30% I have just solved all the congestion problems and made the governemnt a few pennies to improve roads etc. I thank you.

Damn i work on my own so the company has to employ another person to sit beside me or i have to sit in the remaining lanes watching another piece of road under utilised
have thought about buying a black cab and then using the Bus lanes after all i have paid enough tax already dont see why some body else who drives for a living shuld be allowed to drive down it empty or with just one fair and i cant! i am doing a job to.
And to those who dont see it as a money making sceme i dont think it really is though we have already paid for this bit of road more than once and now they want to charge us again but think of it as a politically acceptable way of reducing road capacity and creating congestion whilst pretending to be doing some thing to relieve it. Very clever bet the spin doctor who thought of that was pleased with him self
