and why do most supermarkets have 3 times as many disabled bays as parent & child bays ?
Look around any supermarket at any given time & there are many more kids in the store than disabled people.
I am in no way descriminating - my father is in a wheelchair - its just an observation.

1. To prevent parents having to walk through the car park with children and a trolly of shopping.
2. Because suppermarkets are a business and it makes them profit to keep happy the biggest spenders.

RB5 Paul - you not got kids then.....
Parent & Child spaces are wider - allowing you to fully open the rear door to get the kiddy out of the child seat.
It doesnt bother me whether they are closer or not - but the extra width REALLY does make a difference.
In a lot of car parks the bays are not wide enough to easily get the child out.
I didnt appreciate this fact until I had a child of my own

It just winds me up when there are 4 disabled spaces that are a standard width and not as close to the doors as the 20 odd "Parent & Child" spaces which are wider and right next to the doors,the width thing i can understand but the distance thing is just bizarre when both parents and child are able bodied and able to walk another 20 metres or so to their cars,20 metres to a disabled person can seem like a marathon and have you ever tried getting someone in and out of a wheelchair in a normal sized space?
To make it even more frustrating i saw some bloke have a go at an old couple that were obviously less mobile when they parked in a parent and child space because all the disabled places were full,funnily enough the bloke was driving some kind of windowed van with a couple of ten year olds in the back,think it was a ford galaxy,i think kids of that age can manage to get themselves out of the car and walk across a car park without getting into too much trouble.Poor old woman was nearly in tears and this angry dad type bloke wasn't gonna shut up until they had moved their car so he could have the space for his bus/van/peado mobile or whatever they are called nowadays
. I just wandered over asked him what his problem was,he explained that he needed the space as he had kids,i asked if they had legs,he said yes,i said well go and park over there then,this old couple arent hurting anyone and they need the close space more than you do and he just sort of grunted and drove off...pillock. I then donned my red cape and flew off into the night
Babies in parent and child spaces i can understand,ease of access etc,lazy tosspots in bloody great vans can bugger off and walk like the rest of us
And for gods sake don't shout at doddery old dears because you and your precious teenagers will have to walk a bit further.
And no you are right i don't have children but i do have a little common sense and courtesy,just seems there are a hell of a lot of people the other way round nowadays.

Providing the parents pay for the use of it, sounds like a good idea, stop the little rug rats charging about the place like a play ground. Of course, you could leave them at home / with parents / grand parents / child minders / go when they are at nursery / school etc etc, but that would just be far too easy.

The vast vast majority of supermarket employees are morons on crap pay and crap hours who would probably enjoy watching your child choke to death on it's own vomit after putting up with screaming spoilt brats for a nine hour shift.
Supermarkets always do things the cheapest way possible, so do you really want to leave your children in the care of a supermarket??

Need a dog crecche as well and dog owners parking spots with shade for our vehicles. Dont need to be near the doors though as we know what our legs are for

I know my Tesco has 50% more and I queried it with them. I was told that if the Parent and Toddler spaces were full then I could use the disabled bays.
