How much does everyone drink?
Hi All,
just trying to gauge my alcohol consumption here.....probably get through maybe 4 - 5 bottles of wine a week at home, with consumption of up to one bottle a night not uncommon. Don't go out a huge amount, but when I do I usually end up drunk (6 - 8 pints of lager, bit of a lightweight I suppose!). Probably once every 3 weeks ish.
My feeling is that it is on the high side, as I usually feel the effects in the morning. What about you guys?
Cheers,
Nev
I am of course enjoying a large glass of white wine as I type. Hic!

Think you've hit the nail on the head there, Paul. I feel more guilty about drinking at home than going out and getting slaughtered! Almost like there is a point to going out and having a beer with your mates, but drinking at home makes me feel like an alcoholic!

yea never really bother drinking at home at all because i couldnt see anything to be gained, would quite happily stagger about a nightclub with mates though having a laugh, altho in a week it adds up a lot. The above is on average the same week in week out just on different days of the week.

each to there own. if your drinking every night i would say you have a problem.apparently if you cant stop something for more than a month you are addicted to it. if you drink to get drunk i would say it is worse then just having 2 glasses of wine with dinner every evening. if you still get hang overs in the morning then you are ok because when your body builds up a tolerance you will wake up fine but you will slowly drink more and more to get drunk which is a slippery slope.
how long has this been going on? have any stress recently?
my mate drinks 3 litres of strong cider every night if not its 3 bottles of wine or half bottle of vodka and beer or sometimes all 3 together. he also eats 5 bags of crisps minimum till he passes out every night at about 11pm. now i also worked with him and he got up for work fine 6 days a week never with a hang over and always on time! i therefore would say it didnt affect him like 99 percent of us but then again i think that is a drinking problem becuase hes bang on it every night! he has just been told he need to stop drinking because he went to the docs about stomach cramps and he need to stop drinking now or else! he wasnt allowed to just stop there and then, he had to go on to a drug called dimazipan or something! he had to be weined off the booze and onto a drug which would make him sleep mainly ans not want to drink. it was a week course and had the week off wrk. he started off weaker geting stronger on the drug and had a nurse come round every day. he had it 3 times a day then weened himself off it towards the end of the week with help and guidance from the nurse! he came back to work 5 days late due to complications!

I hardly ever drink myself - only really when going out on a night out, when I tend to drink probably 3-4 pints, 3-4 bottles and maybe a few shots, and Im pretty pissed on that, but always stop drinking before I get 'leg-less' pissed.
I enjoy a pint, but getting home to bed after a night out and trying to get to sleep with the room spinning, then wasting a day with a hangover just isnt worth it.

One barrel at a time does me - you can always bottle a second batch if you find the bottles easier to store. We still have a dozen or so bottles of 6%+ winter ale that we brewed for Christmas.

Full mash is where it's at
Start with crushed malt, mash for 90 mins at 66-67 deg C, drain, sparge at 80 deg C, bring to the boil, add hops, boil 1 1/4 hrs, add more hops, boil 15 mins, chill, filter out hop debris, add yeast and leave to ferment, rack into barrel when the specific gravity has stopped falling. Mature in the barrel for as long as you can resist drinking the stuff!

At my house I have a few bottles of beer in, usually something from a smaller brewer that is very nice. During the week, very very rare to have more than four pints. Out for tea last night and the pub had Timothy Taylor "Landlord" on draught - superb

2-3 pints every other saturday. That's my regular binge.. lol.. Once in a blue moon I'll have a few on a night out. 5-6 max, but I can't remember the last night out I had that.
I seem to have a good time without the beer too.
