Great Innovations?

Great Innovations?
Got a 3000 word report in for May.
Looks pretty simple but trying to gather some ideas.
Ideally want to do something interesting, yet tv/computer games have ruined my imagination.
Ideas that did pop into my head; Bowing 747, ipod, ebay, addidas predators.
Will need to select an innovation that has plenty of information available, yet don't want to go to the extreme of something like Dyson.
Below is a summarised brief, any further ideas would be great.
Thinking something within the automotive industry?
Thanks!
**Research an innovation of your choosing, ensuring it is one carried out, at least in part, by an organisation. Prepare a report that:
A. ) describes the innovation, making clear its type, and analyses the innovation process in terms of the activities undertaken using an appropriate model (you may find a diagram useful in undertaking your analysis),
B. ) explains how the innovation came about by placing it in an appropriate theoretical context, using one (or just possibly more) of the theories of innovation (i.e. use the theory to explain some of the main features of the innovation),
C. ) critically evaluates the contribution that the innovation made (or is making) to the organisation’s corporate strategy. To do this you will need to say something about the long term development of the organisation, its objectives and the strategies it has employed, and then indicate the extent to which the innovation has contributed to the successful implementation of this strategy (i.e. if you think the organisation’s strategy was growth explain that the innovation contributed to this).**

Traction control, ABS, intelligent 4wd, SatNav. Airbags?
Basically think of anything that started off as an option only for expensive Mercs and is now standard on a Ford Fiesta.

Interesting question, but don't confuse a product with an innovation.
Walkman was an innovation, but the iPod isn't (although MP3 is). Dyson isn't an innovation in my book, either. Nor the 747.
I would avoid obvious things like PCs, the internet, email and mobile phones although a different take on GPS might be good, and there's an automotive link with sat nav and speed camera detectors, plus loads of other Big Brother stuff where government or whoever can track your every move, speed. Do a search on here and you'll probably have it written for you
Richard.

Thanks for the help so far all.
Traction control sounds interesting, wonder if it was origianlly developed for cars? Will give that some research - don't want it to become to techinal mind.
Keep the ideas coming

I had to do a very similar essay when I was at Uni.
I ended up choosing Dyson in the end as I am a lazy ****** and the library and internet yielded loads of stuff about him and his company!
How about the new combined tyre/wheel thingy from Michelin?

how about:
http://www.turbec.com/products/products.htm
it can run on gas produced by human waste, and pumps 100 + KW back into the national grid, and about half as much again in heat.
basically a machine that runs on farts.
