Default VW GOLF XENON LIGHTS

I've bought a pair of xenon headlights off my local breaker from a mk4 golf and have been told by a guy that these are just a plug and play upgrade. Having plugged them in they appear not to want to "play" and cant get any light out of em at all. Does anyone have a golf with this kit on or know if i need relays or wiring loom extension bits etc as im not sure what you get in the £600 xenon light pack upgrade.
any help would be much appreciated,
thx
Andy

Did you get the ballasts? Without them, you have nowt

With them, you ought to be able to plug and play. Checked any fuses?
