Default oooops, bit fast

Bit of a mistake today, got done

50mph wide straight road surrounded by fields, going a little fast and got pulled over.

Police man was polite and fair. 3 points fixed penalty £60 fine. I was going fast enough to get much more, but the road was clear and dry and he used his judgment and discretion to give a lower punishment.

Actually got complimented on my driving and the car, but could not let me off for the speed.

All in all a fair outcome, just thought I would balance the story a bit.

Red face

I can sympathise.

I got my 3 points in a 50 (rural road, low headges set back from the verge, nice dry, sunny evening). No junctions, so treated the road as glf.

I made the mistake of coming up to and overtaking two cars - a brown Corsa and a newly passed driver in an Escort - which were doing about 40 to 45mph. I actually waited for a decent straight, because the Corsa was following the Escort too closely to safely overtake only the one car, and I wasn't sure if it wanted to overtake too.

Anyway, made a small gap of a few hundred yards in a short space of time before hitting a 30. Tootled through the 30, then carried on making progress. Got into the next town, and I noticed the Corsa catching up with me. I then noticed the driver was wearing a white shirt with black lapelles
Carried on into Wantage town centre, and got headed off by a Thames Valley Land Rover. Pulled over, and had a chat with the condesending officer in the Corsa (reckoned I'd slowed in the 30s because I'd seen him as I overtook ). While we were there, at least another 3 police cars came past - I was obviously their No1 criminal on a Friday evening!

Anyway, I didn't contest the ticket - I wasn't too far off the red line when I changed up to 5th, just before anchoring on the brakes for the 30!

Did the Corsa have a calibrated Speedo? If it did'nt(and I bet it did'nt) you should've contested it as
1. He had no home office approved gear for judging speed.
2. He did'nt follow you, using calibrated equipment for the set distance.

So you got done, even though he a single off duty police officer, had no evidence other than his impression of speed.

I did post on here at the time (almost 3 years ago now), but I had incrimiated myself at the time by admitting that I was going over 50, and also accepted the NIP. You live and learn.

He was doing around 45mph, I managed to get up to about 90 for a few hundred yards before hitting the brakes for the 30 - don't think it would have taken a genius to work out I was exceeding the 50 limit by more than a few mph!

Easy to give advice in hindsight, not so easy when you have half of Thames Valley ****sabulary on your case.

Start getting bolshie with plod and he just gives you an even harder time. Put it down to experience and move on. Bad luck though mate.

Sense being talked at last!

You be an **** and they will do you for tyres, lights, numberplate ..... everything!!

When the Magistrate sees "Dirty Numberplate" come up before him he doesn't think 'Petty Crime' he thinks, "This driver gave the coppas a hard time"

Bang ..... YOU get a rough ride in court!!
