John Peel and Tommy Vance all gone within a few months of each other. John used to do 10 - 12 during the week and Tommy did the "Friday Rock Show" from 10 - 12 on a Friday evening. It is probably hard to estimate the impact they had upon a generation, or even several generations.

Sad news indeed, I used to love the Friday night rock show... Theme music was Van Der Graf Generator wasn't it?

The greatest voiceover man ever has left us ...... who else could touch him for preposterously OTT adverst for the likes of Rainbow, Whitesnake et al.

Like Peel, passionate about music, and like Peel, still working when he passed away. And a much of 30-somethings are discussing him on a car website ...... he touched a good number of people, and you can't say fairer than that.

RIP Tommy

The hard bit is finding out he was 63! I remember him back in the late seventies to early eighties - and finding out how little he looked like his voice made you think he'd look.

But he was geniunely enthusiastic about the music he played.

Yes it was, fantastic tune. I bought a few of their records because of the theme tune to Friday Rock Show and delighted in one of the tracks that ended with "I woke up on Monday(?) morning to find that I was dead". One fun band

Tommy inspired many people and some of them like myself got in to the music biz because of him. He will be very sadly missed

My abiding memory is of him doing the chart show in theighties and introducing Iron Maiden doing Run to the hills and the Goombay dance band doing Seven Tears, still have the tape.

The good DJ's are taken and we get left with Sara ***......

Not that I wish any ill to Sara ***, just that she doesnt broadcast ever again.

Tommy Vance Rock Show was pivotal in my music listening development into rock. Great spokesman and great DJ.

Sad loss for the rock fraternity.

If you can't find anything nice to say about him, it might be better to keep quiet

Might be your all time hero but I don't know who he is apart from the old bloke constantly in shades on Hells kitchen.

I didn't say he was my all time hero.

You just need to show some respect, that's all.
