OK, finally I have enrolled on the bandwagon called e-bay!!

I have no idea how all this works even though I have looked through the tutorials

I have opened up a PayPal account, as it looked like the right thing to do - BUT - if a buyer buys an item off me and I go to PayPal I have to click on 'Request Payment' ...... but, they say I will have an e-mail telling me 'You Have Cash!' (If I have why ask for payment??)

Anything I should and shouldn't do on e-bay/PayPal??

I wondered how long it would be before you registered.

If you offer Paypal as an accepted payment method then you DO NOT have to ask for payment. The buyer pays you and you will receive notification of payment.

You can request money from anybody with an email address if you want.

It gives you the option to chase non-payers up if they haven't already paid under your terms of sale.

As a rule if people want to buy, they pay first.

I've not once had to chase up a customer for payment, even when I've sold an "optional extra" after the original sale which won't generate an invoice.

With the absense of any Paypal payment buttons, I just tell them to deposit the amount to my email address.

In simple words how does it all work?

Is the PayPal account like a Bank Account?

Do buyers pay into your PayPal via a credit card?

A cheque would come to the seller wouldn't it? Not to PayPal?

How do you get money out and what do they charge? Personal Account?

How do you deposit money to an e-mail account???????

Its all pretty straight forward.
If someone wishes to pay you by cheque, then they send you said cheque in the post. You bank it, WAIT FOR IT TO CLEAR.... then dispatch the goods.
Paypal works with credit card payments and is immediate in most cases.

Paypal is merely a holding place for your money which you can choose to leave there to buy things with or transfer to your own bank/ building society account to earn interest.

The first level account (personal) doesn't accept credit card payments. For that you need to choose the premier or business level.

Your receiving limits are raised with Premier and buyers can use all methods of payment but you are then charged a percentage for receiving payment (starts at 3.4% + 20p and lowers depending on amount of money running through your Paypal account).

Indeed a cheque would come to the seller via post as normal.

To get money out you click on WITHDRAWAL and follow the screen, it's simple. A personal account has no charges.

To pay somebody just click on SEND MONEY and follow the screens.

Take a look at the help pages in Paypal- they cover everything.

NB- Without looking myself they might have changed the personal account status but as far as I can remember back it was limited.

Oh and to add, it's free to withdraw £50 and above a time.

OK, I'm getting there ................ how do buyers pay money INTO my PayPal Account if credit cards are not accepted?

Am I correct in assuming that the only way money will be paid into the PayPal Account is from another e-bayer who has a PayPal Account with funds in it?

Also, how do I pay money into my PayPal Account?

I cannot find answers to these questions on the site and there are loads of experienced e-bayers on here who could assist

You're not looking at the HELP top right on Paypal.

Others can pay via bank funds, Paypal funds.

If you have completed Direct Debit for a UK bank account, you can add funds to your PayPal Account using direct debit. After you initiate a direct debit transfer, you can view the approximate date the funds will post to your PayPal Account balance by clicking the blue question mark on the transactions details page. You will receive an email confirmation every time you add funds to your account.

As I said above, you don't get charged on a personal account, just Premier and Business and then your fees are lowered depending on the amount going through Paypal a month.

The Scaletrix Sets must be about 1950's and 1960's, never played with most of them - some old Gerry Anderson stuff as well ..... I always bought 2 toys ( 1 for the kids to open and play with and 1 for the old man! most still have their sellotape on!) I have some Lucky Bags that are unopened - with Thunderbirds stuff in (obviously I haven't a clue what toy is inside!)

The attic is literally full to the rafters with 55 years worth of stuff/boxes/toys etc. needs to be cleared out - hence e-bay??

Does anyone actually believe pslewis is a real "old" man? Really? He is just pandering to some peoples perceptions of what a real old bloke would say, and not very well.
Read between the lines, whats the best stuff to have in your attic, when your trying to get to grips with ebay? Old thunderbirds toys, scaletrix sets! ffs, that stuff would be a gold mine if it was "new in the box", and some people fell for his "old man, no idea" routine
He's got nothing to do all day, allegedly, so he must have caught a glimpse of antique roadshow on cable by now
I actually reckon pslewis is just some sad out of work middle aged doleite, with nothing better to do than troll scoobynet, wasting peoples time and bandwith with inane and boring topics.
