just found out my dog has got to be put down tomorow
gutted.
didn't think i would have took it so badly, he has got to go back to the vets at ten o clock tomorrow morning.
the vet says that he has got fluid leaking onto his lung.
gutted

There's a weird relationship between a bloke and his dog which is hard to explain but having been in your place all I can say is that it's a gutting experience so the best thing to do is make the most of the remaining time together and enjoy it.

Its really tough - my dog was 14 when I had her put down ......... its harder than you think and it takes months to get over it!
I know its just a dog ....... unless you own one you don't know .....

Sympathise with you mate, i was gutted when i thought my dog was lost the other week. You really do miss the little ****ers when theyre not around.

he is just lay there and won't move, breathing very fast etc. he has been off for a while now but he just hasn;t moved all day so we took him up the vets.
she wanted to put him down but my sister is down in london till tomorrow so she wants to say goodbye, he's not in any pain just very weak and sleepy

TBY, Feel for you mate, know exactly how u feel, a few years ago we went through the same thing with with our Bulldog, was only 1 week off being 2, exact same problem good luck 2moz

Really sorry m8. Have been at the vets a couple of times when we had previous dogs put to sleep. Dreading when it happens to my big red psycho dog.

Know how you must feel mate, had to have my beautiful boxer Holly put to sleep in Dec 2003, she was my baby girl,she had a brain tumour, and it still hurts today mate, So sorry for you mate, just hang on to those good times you had with him cos nobody can take them from you, good luck mate, If you wanna talk PM me

It's always a terrible thing to have to have done. My father breeds German Sheperds, over the years we've had to go down this road many times. It never gets any easier.
The dog i have now suffers from fits and i think i may be in a similar situation to you before too long.
Just a thought. You may find it less painful to get the vet to do a house call, rather than go there. I'll be doing it that way when the time comes.

We, well I say we, it was our family dog even if I don't live at home anymore, put down couple of weeks before Christmas last year.
He'd just been diagnosed as having diabetes and was on medication for a couple of other things like arthritis.
He had some sort of fit one Sunday afternoon but then calmed down again. He then had another fit later on and my folks took him to the emergency vet. The vet found he’d gone blind and was in a bad way, so they came home without him
He’d done well and was 15 years old. I think I’m glad not to have seen him in a bad state but I never said good-bye to him.
Just typing this has made me cry.

At least you know. My cat is 17 soon and has been teetering at death's door for months now. I haven't the guts to take her to the vets. She's just very thin and sleeps a lot, but isn't in any apparent pain.

Apparition, that happened to my cat, he died on his favourite cushion being stroked by me. Still hurts 2 years later. At least he was home and not in pain, just old. Poor Big Yim. I could not be as brave.

Very sorry to hear this. I stayed with my black lab while he was given the injection, and also the cat 1 year later, just looked them straight in the eyes at the time and held them. They were the family pets, my parents couldn't watch but I just couldn't leave them to die on their own. It was both very difficult but also a help that I was there with them at the end knowing it was peaceful and being able to say goodbye.
As part of the family they leave a huge hole once gone 5/6 years later I still miss them both, you can get another dog or cat but you can't replace characters, and they are two characters I will always remember/miss

Our Cocker Spaniel keeps creaking on, has been blind for years now, shes about 12 and the vet said the average lifespan for them is 11 years 8 months !
Still goes mad for food and has a good old roll in the snow so theres still a bit of life in her but hey get to a point and go really old really quickly, it is heartbreaking but remember that you can always get another once you get over the greif and before you know it is business as usual, a puppy destroying the house tends to focus your attention and give you less time to dwell on things.
Bit sick but it does sound like an opportunity for a group buy at the vets.

Very sorry to hear about that. Its a bad experience to have to go through.
Our beautiful old tortoiseshell cat died in my arms and it took a long time to get over that.

Had a Rough collie (Lassie look-a-like), called Benjie for 13 years.
He'd been gradually going downhill for a while. But one morning he'd had a stroke and couldn't use his back legs anymore.
He was sat in a damp patch where he'd pi55ed himself. He'd no idea of what was going on around him and was just sat there barking at nothing.
My parents put him in the garden, so my last memory of him was him sat in the garden barking at nothing.
When I came in from work my old man told me they'd taken him to the vets and they'd said he'd totally gone - so they put him down.
It didn't really sink in for a few days, but it really sucked.
He died a week before my 20th birthday.
On the day my mother went to collect Ben's insurance she stopped at a stall collecting money for a dogs home.
One of there dogs came over and sat by my mother.
This dog ended up here and has been a big part of the family for the past seven years.
Big Yin: There's nothing really anyone can say that'll really make anything easier for you.
I just hope things work out for you like they did for us.

was that directed at me?? I am not trying to belittle the loss, but when it gets down to people asking "What is best for the dog and how much will it cost" .... eventually you become a cynic. I genuinely feel for the people who love their pets, but in my experience, the vast majority of people love 40 quid more than they love their dog - Let it suffer or die of old age and save 40 quid....

im so sorry to hear that bud, its very painful, u had a rottie since she was a pup at 6 weeks old, she grew up with me since i was a kid myself
i had to put her down just over 12 yrs coz she had a tumor on her right leg, i posted about it a couple of yrs back here, when she died, just a day before i had to go to cadwell park
one of the worst days of my life, the last cuddles and kisses, its sad , she didnt know what was gonna happen to her, i didnt let my wife and mum see her before she got put down, i knew they wont be able to bear it
