Ipod 60GB
Been on the lookout for a mp3 player with 60gb capacity at a reasonable price. Have seen the iPod photo 60GB at £307 from a local shop and the apple store (£309). Why is this so much cheaper than everywhere else that's selling at £425+?
Any pitfalls? Don't really need the photo storage facility but want to use it as a 60GB mp3 player like you would a normal iPod/iRiver etc. I assume this does the job?
Obviously need to buy a replacement set of headphones as the white ones are apparently not too good and they look ghey too

Apple announced a big price cut a few days ago - shops probably haven't caught up yet.
Also - the new iPods allow connection to a Digital Camera (adapter required). I'm quite tempted by the new 30gb iPod Photo - it'll be big enough for me and it's slightly smaller also.

It does photo's if you want and has AV out to stick it on a telly if you want to show slideshows. You get a colour LCD too, but that's about it.
Everyone else is selling it at the old retail price. They'll do it for as long as they can get away with it.
Earphones are ****.

P.S. I've got the iPod Photo 40GB version.

Apple are bringing their own cable out in March that will be about £20
Bear in mind that these price cuts included cutting out the free dock, carry bag, firewire lead (now you just get USB 2.0) and AV lead. So the ones you see in the shops do come with a lot more accessories that would cost you about £80 anyway.
Still I LOVE my 60gig iPod Photo, the album art thing is brilliant, as is the ability to have all my photos with me at all times.

I've had my 60Gb zen for over a year now. Bought it beause it was cheaper than the ipod, and at the time you couldn't get and ipod that had enough storage (yes I have filled my 60gb zen!!). It still works absolutely fine, it's easy to use, and the sound quality is great. Nothing wrong with it IMO.
If I was buying one now, I admit would be tempted by the ipod 60gb photo now that they've come down in price. The Zen is still 50 quid cheaper though....

I love the Ipod 60GB. It sounds a whole lot better as well since I bought Bose noise cancelling headphones. Try E bay. That is where I got mine (brand new).

One more question chaps (last one honest ). Is there an upper noise limit on these things? If so, can it be removed. I heard there was an xxx dB limit that can be removed. Could be for a totally different device though.

Cool. How though? Easy peasy? Is it a download the software thing from apple jobbie? Or can I get them to do it instore? I'm slightly hard of hearing so I have good reason as some devices are too quiet in standard form.
I'm gonna go into the Apple store in Regents st on the way home, I wonder if I'll be able to resist Up until now the price and lack of radio features have put me off. However my new phone has a radio and the costs has just come down

They will tell you it can't be done in the Apple store, but its just a piece of software that just changes the firmware. I ran it on my old 20gig but so far haven't done it on the piPod.

Having said that, I do think the ipod photo 60gb is better than the Zen, (simply because of the photo option). But, not better enough to make me want to ditch the Zen. Might get one as well though, (seeing as I've filled up the Zen )

Good to see that Apple have designed their own Camera Connector and that it will import your pics into the iPod photo library rather than just sticking them in a folder on the disk. For what it was, that Belkin thing was a tad overpriced
