Default advice needed

hi i was just wondering if this has happened to anyone or anyone knows the legal side of it i hit and dog and it died it was at night and came out of no where. the owner was contacted by a passer by but i have not spoken to him yet. i have not told my insurance yet either because if i claim it with put my insurance up too much next year. does anyone know whos liable for the damage or if my insurance will go up next year if i just tell them and don't claim?

thanks in advance

I believe you need to report it to the police and that the owner is responsible.

reported to the police and you don't need to tell the police unless the owner isn't informed which he was and also if you don't swap details we didn't swap details but i left my name and number at the place he works i am going to call tomorow if not then i think i need to report it

Claim off the owner - their fault for letting their animal out unsupervised.
