The town does have a reputation.
I have never been there (or needed to). People at work told me to stay away.
Stabbing a man who has already been stabbed is a pretty low thing to do.

They're in the process of revamping Corby. Planners are keen for people to see the "new" Corby.
Part of this scheme is to rip down the eye sore that is the town centre and rebuild it.
Corby is the only place I've been to that its free to park right in the middle of the town centre (I have to go there occasionally thru work - lucky me).
There is a lot of money being ploughed into the area at the mo though.

I work in Corby, and although the town is a bit of a mess and there is a fair bit of trouble it's still full of nicer people than Wellingborough which is just down the road.
I think you find most towns have dodgy characters/area's but they also have good area's and good people but you never hear about any of those.
The only exception i've found to this is Wellingborough which is 100% dodgy, rude locals and likely to want to fight you if you happen to be within a 10 metre radius of them, and if they don't wanna hit you they want to rob you.
Northamptonshire.....Rose Of The Shires (Just be careful of the thorns)
Lived here all my life as well so it's quite a well informed view of the towns
P.S. I don't live in Corby or Wellingborough (thank god)

Wellingborough is a council estate, not that there is anything wrong with council estates,Wellingborough just happens to be a cack hole of a council estate.

Not been to Corby or Wellingborough - but I fail to understand how any other place on this earth (let alone Northamptonshire) can be more of a dump than Kettering! I thought families were a bit "close" her in Suffolk. That place has a habit of making the jovial terminally depressed!

Ok i give in Wellingborough is a lovely community for the retired (unemployed i think is the term used in most other towns),pikeys, immigrants and pre teen mums that seem to be housed in the Swansgate centre.

Corby's bad, Basildon's worse, but Bentley's got to be the worst town I've ever had the misrotune to spend a Saturday night in.
Then again, everything work-related essentially ceased to exist once the pits shut down.

It was full of old folk, it's far from where I would like to retire tho... was a nice quiet cheap little town that I could commute to London from, then sell up and make a packet, coming back up to the north west...
Ian
(still not as bad as corby or kettering - and at least had saleen \ MSD etc based there.... )

Yes, it's a charming village with a lovely castle.
It's also not in Corby.

Or Rockingham even
Do not forget the Rockingham Raceway and i think they class Rockingham as a suburb!
Corby has got a lot of reinvestment going on also house prices are starting to rise as people cannot afford to live in and around Cambridge, etc and are commuting from Corby and surrounding areas.

As I said before: if you remove a town's main/sole employer, all those who CAN, leave.
Virtually what you are left with is those who can't/won't work, or those who can, but can't leave, and are bitter and destitute. Apologies to poster above who lives there.
What do you expect the place to be like?
Go and have a look at a few more Tory-legacy towns and villages, ex steel communities, ex mining communities, ex fishing communities.
There's little hope, but a LOT of desperation.
And yes, it's the young who are mostly at fault. Whilst I don't defend their behaviour, I can at least understand some of it: when the jobs went, so did THEIR chances of EVER having one, or any training to suit. What do THEY feel like?
There are whole areas of South Wales, South Yorkshire, Notts, etc that are like this.
