Default seeing a hypnotist tonight

part of the giving up smoking thing.
at the local hospoital its a one hour group thing for £65 or your money back.
I truely want to pack in the tabs, indeed I gave up for six or seven months last year, but let mny guard down one night in the boozer.
I am fine when I have made the jump, I just need a push and hope that this will be it!

If you "truely" want to give up then you're more than half way there. Finish the pack you are on and don't buy any more, save yourself £65.

There is no quick fix to any addiction, you have to want to give up and you have to break the cycle. Hypnotism, patches etc etc may all help a little to act as a mental crutch but you have to have the self determination to just get on and do it, if you don't have that, nothing will work.

Good luck with giving up the weed!

If you can manage for six-seven months, you shouldn't need a hypnotist surely? I thought they were for people who couldn't manage for a week.

Do what others do. Post up here the day you stop, and give us updates. We'll keep you at it!

Good luck

Read Allen Carr's book

The Easy Way to Stop Smoking

A hypnotherapist cannot force someone's will and if there is a small bit of you that wants to keep smoking, then you will carry on regardless of any hypnotherapy.

Speaking from experience I'm afraid

Talking

I am highly skeptical about hypnosis, at least in the form they try to portray it.

I once saw a stage hypnotist show at university. He got some poor blighter running around the stage shouting "I woke up Sunday morning with a handover and a condom left up my **** should I call the police?"

Amusing as it was, I still wasn't convinced the "participants" weren't just going along with the show!

Ive spoken to the people who do it, they only mildly put you under, just toucj#hing the surface.
s'been two hours now without one, still going strong.
Got sweets and gum at the ready though.
Question...
last time I gave up I had a sinlge *** left in a glass hidden away in the cupboard, the theory was that if I really needed it then I wouldnt have to buy a whole pack.
Never needed it and forgot about it completely.
Good idea/bad idea?

Personally I'd say bad as you are already setting yourself up to fail by having the fall back ready for you. If you feel the need and have to go out of your way to find a shop AND hand over £5 or whatever a pack costs, then in that time you may have got over the worst of the "need" and decide it isn't quite so important. That's IMO of course, I am sure there are others who would say it's a great idea to be able to constantly see it there and realise you are suceeding. What works for 1 may not work for another.

3 hours now and all ok,
one guy came into my office smoking and put the *** out and I noticed that he stunk like whassit.
Thats a good sign, associating the stench of *** smoke as a bad thing was a great help

Look into the eyes, not around the eyes, into the eyes - your under

"You do not, I repeat NOT want the 65 quid back, you thought my services were excellent and you will recommend me to all your friends"

3-2-1 your back in the room

pmsl, theres three in our office going to this.
tbh, from the talk here, and a quick search I am not going.
I may have lost a five pound deposit, but its given me determination to succeed on will power alone.
Ive got banana chips for snack food and a pack of cherry drops for emergency situations.
four hours, no cravings so far.
(I know that four hours is hardly a great shake but from the tinyest acorns etc_)

go for it mate! Who needs hypnotists when you have scoobynet?

(BTW my wife will certainly see the truism in that statement!)

Progress report tomorrow morning please - and while you're feeling strong, I DARE you to go to the pub tonight!

Agreed, after twenty years smoking I gave up 2 months ago and at the moment, doubt I could get through a *** now. I find the smell of them appalling ......

It is very difficult to stop of course, it took me a very long time to succeed. Had to have a stay in hospital to start off the real effort.

The longer you stay off it the stronger you get of course and you have to resist having one at all costs, as you found out the hard way.

I cant stand the smell of them myself now and would hate to try one again.

Good luck-stick with it and I hope the hypnosis helps.

Les,
bailed out of going to hypnosis, thought Id be better using the £65 elsewhere.
still going strong, went to the health shop and bought some toffee popcorn for todays snacking.
Thanks for the encouragement guys, really helps a lot

re: other two & hypnotist....
they now have to go to a one on one session with the guy and if after that they are still smoking he has said he will refund them after the session.
funny thing...
all the people who left the session feeling like non smokers dumped their **** in the bin on the way out, all the sceptics were picking up the **** as freebies..
pmsl
an hour and a half to go for 24 hours gone!

When my Dad gave up he got loads of packets of Polos and just sucked on one of them everytime he got the urge.

Worked for Him

Mind you - he did smell of mint everywhere he went - which is much better than smelling of stale *** smoke I suppose

I REALLY REALLY recommend you get this book as soon as possible.

At the moment you are expecting things to be hard.. and it will be if you expect it to be. Reading this book really helps your state of mind.

I have tried to give up numerous times before and always failed after a week or so as I always felt I was missing out at the pub or at work or whatever.

Its been 2 and a half weeks now since I finished this book and I havent smoked since. Ive had no cravings at all unless ive been really drunk, and even then Ive been able to say NO and it is getting easier to have a drink without a smoke now.

And if Im not at the pub i really dont miss smoking at all. The book really does help if you are determined to give up.

done my first 24 hours.

woo yay!
got a bag of honey dipped banana chips as a celebratory treat, Im really caning the snack foods atm, but the cravings have been very mild.
last time I gave up I found it no bother at all, so in my mind I had always though I can give up when I fancy it.
now Ive made the jump Im really going to give it everything.

The advert with the little girl derscribing her dad's death sits pretty heavy, and the fact he was 32
I will be thrity one in June, heres hoping that:
a) I stay well off the tabs
b) I havent done toomuch irreparable damage

So why even bother with the snack foods? Sounds like you're using them as an excuse rather than the crutch that they are to most people. Stop thinking you're going through withdrawal and need sympathy, and start thinking of yourself simply as a non-smoker.

BTW, as I suggested this method to you originally, I claim the sixty five quid
