Foreign workers.
Friend of mine has just been told she needs to return to Oz for 2 months, because of some sort of issue with her visa. I really don't know the full story, as I haven't had chance to speak to her yet.
She's a fully trained, qualified, experienced Intensive Care Nurse. Of course, I can fully understand the Govt throwing her out for 8 weeks, due to clerical issues, because intensive care nurses are plentiful in this country, as we all know. What we need, and I'm sure we can all agree, is fast food staff, cleaners, and anyone else who is apparently prepared to undertake the jobs we dont want anymore.
So, if anyone has the need for an intensive care nurse, in the London area, over the next 8 weeks, and is told there aren't any, you'll know why. No-one will have trouble and MacD's though. Nice one Tonee.

mate in scotland at the mo we have alot of russians and polish
i have to say , very good and loyal workers mate, they work harder than our own people
its sad they get jobs who others wont do, and get paid peanuts, makes me sick

No argument there Moses. My point however is that we have cheap foreign labour everywhere, the Govt is banging on about only bringing in skilled people, and my mate gets told to sling her hook for 8 weeks!

Most of the cheap foreign labour are Poles, Hungarians etc, who are EU citizens and are therefore entitled to be here. Aussies are not, I'm afraid, though I'm surprised that they're forcing a highly skilled person out - strange.
It's entirely stupid - there are jobs, and we need them to be filled. If people want to come in and fill them (and let's face it, no-one indigenous seems to want to), then fair play to them. As long as people are paying taxes, I've not a problem.
Clearly those who want to come to the UK and scrounge should be discouraged, as should layabout pikey dolites who we have the misfortune to breed by the zillion in this fair land of ours.

My aussie mate isnt rude or arogant. And i had 3 days in Oz back in Nov, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, and when people heard the accent, they couldn't have been nicer to me and my collegues.
Unlike the Scots. ;-)

So let me get this straight, you are blaming the whole of the government's immigration policy and using a selected case which you dont really know about? Many of the immigrants youre talking about come from Europe, from countries that are legally allowed, like the example above Poland. A lot of these too are 'specialist' and badly needed also.
Just the same as "dissillusioned" Brits are apparently leaving this country in waves to settle in these same countries hoping to make a quick buck in the process, and are allowed to due to European legislation.
You try and get residency in Australia and tell me what a picnic it is.
