More Ebay - postage
anyone else noticed how postage costs for ebay items are getting stupid??
was about to bid and noticed the postage cost was £8 FOR 2ND CLASS!!!! Checked website and it costs under £3 to send.
A few other items i wanted also have stupidly high postage costs, some openly say it's to cover fee's etc. it's becoming a big waste of time IMO.
rant over.

It is annoying, but if you have a top price you are willing to pay just factor in the postage to the total price. Its like buying a new car. Its the cost to change that matters not how much your trade in is.

eBay have started showing the postage cost alongside the item cost for anything that you're tracking in MyEbay. I guess it is because so many people were taking the mick, with punters getting turned over on p&p.

although there are some idiots out there the postage cost is not "just postage".
if im sending a parcel i factor in the post, the packing and the time spent wrapping it properly and then going out to the post office......if the post was £2 i would prob charge £5 (assuming the postage wasnt more than 10% of the total cost)

Ditto what Tiggs wrote. My missus has done a bit of ebaying and she factors in the cost of the packing, the postage itself, and about 50p to a quid on top for her time. In comparison a lot of her items have had low postage costs compared to some other peoples'.
We have both been put off paying over the top postage costs when it bumps up the total cost not too far from internet shopping prices.

As a Powerseller this is often discussed when new Powersellers come onboard.
Blatant greed is easily reported and they do get their listings pulled.
However eBay in their T&C's allow for a "handling charge" on top of P&P so it can be open to interpretation.
At the end of the day it's up to the buyer, if he/she buys knowing they are being stung then the inflated prices continue.

Zacly wot Spoon says.... Basically you have to check the prices you're likely to pay with those elsewhere. And you all do that don't you ...? I tracked some NOS stuff (new old stock) for an old bike I have. The bits (rubber connections to the airbox) went for about £13. Plus p& P I suppose. Rang a Suzuki dealer and got them for £4.50 (ish) .....
If you want to pay inflated p&P then that's up to you ....

jiffybags and bubble wrap doesnt grow on trees
also be aware that many sellers are dropshipping the goods to you and that is the carrige charge that the dropshipping companys might charge the seller
dropshipping compmany used to charge me about £6 for a set of 10 bathroom towels

Rather than start another thread as these questions are related:
I've been asked two question regarding a sale I'm having....
What is the reserve and is there a buy it now price?
Repeatedly, I'm being asked what the postage price is and what the asking price is?
Presumably, I'd be breaking Ebay's T&Cs if I divulge this information?

they don't grow on tress - but then again the last thing I bought had niether a jiffy bag or bubble wrap.
Anyway, I think you've missed the point. I'm not saying everything 'postage' wise should not be included, it should. What I was saying was simply, recently I've noticed the postage prices increase quite alot.

Yep - agreed. I don't bid on items with ridiculous postage costs as they are taking the p&ss. Free P/P really helps to sell your items against the competition.

The reason for some people putting up their postage costs and lowering their item price is simply called fee avoidance.
eBay don't charge the seller P&P fees only on the item/s sold price.
Sell you car for £5 and charge £25,000 delivery. Mind you, being that blatant and you'd last 3 minutes maybe.
