Unhappy Honeymoon mess

Hi All

I'm getting married in June and had booked up to go to Cyprus for 10 days the day after our wedding. Our flight was booked for the Sunday afternoon at 16:45 and I paid extra for this flight but on Friday we received a letter saying that we are now on a different flight

Normally this wouldn't be a problem but our new flight time is 07:45 so we will have to be at Gatwick (an hour away) for 06:45 We had a chauffeur booked to take us to the airport the following afternoon after the wedding so that we could say our goodbyes to our family & friends but now it looks like we'll be sneaking out after only a couple of hours sleep

I spoke to the travel agents the other day and all they could offer was that we could downgrade to a 7 day holiday because we will still be able to fly on the same flight in the afternoon Apparently they don't do that flight for 10 day holidays or change it up to a 14 day holiday which isn't possible because we have another wedding to attend 2 weeks after ours

If not we will lose our money because they are still offering us a holiday even though it's not what I booked I am now waiting for the travel agents to get back to me but that hasn't happened yet and I've been chasing them since Friday

Does anyone have any ideas at all what I can ask for or try and do? I really want to keep the holiday because of our choice of destination but if we lose the chauffeur we'll have to get a cab or drive down there If I have to drive there that'll then screw up the reception

Thanks

have your reception, get someone to drive you down and stay in a hotel at gatwick for a couple of hours before catching the flight.

So there's space available, but they won't give it to newlyweds unless they DOWNGRADE?? That really sucks

Get the manager on the phone and start shouting loudly

I'd go with this option too, they've admitted there is space, it was offered to you before and now they're going back on their word, youve paid the extra for this flight becuase it wouldnt normally have been offered, get it sorted and then start looking for compo

Yes they offered that I could fly at 16:45 as I was before if we went to 7 or 14 days but said that we can't have it for 10 days anymore

well as far as Id be concerned theyve offered you the flight, you've paid for it now they're refusing to supply the goods (flight tickets) tell them to get knotted. Id be well on their case, go in the shop and refuse to leave until its sorted out.Good luck. Id be furious even if it was just for a normal holiday let alone a honeymoon, hope u get it sorted.

I've just been on the phone to them yet again asking them what's going on and they still haven't been able to get in contact with the tour operator They are looking into it again and will get back to me

Normally I'd be a bit p!ssed off at the change but to do this to our honeymoon has really upset the pair of us

Thanks

is there any travel sick drugs to help your soon to be Mrs?

i would try reason followed by shouting, i think if they offer you a suitable alternative within reasonable time they can mess your flights about, it sucks i know but they do seem to have the upper hand due to all sorts of red tape, i'm not an expert though!

best of luck

Ray

Sounds like the problem is that the flight back on the Wed is full so they are trying it on with people to see who will accept it. Quite simply don't. If enough fuss is kicked up someone else will be bumped.

No it's not my month is it

I had a phone call from the travel agents this morning and it now seems that the guy I spoke to yesterday managed to get somewhere with them and we now fly in the afternoon at a different time again Why couldn't they offer that on Saturday when they got hold of the tour operator We are now flying at a good time again so hopefully it'll stay that way.

I'm just waiting to be surrounded by live chickens on the plane like in Police academy now

Hopefully the new paperwork will be in the post confirming it soon because I want it in writing.

DW

Best not say on here so I'll PM you.

Nat21

That was what I was going to do but looks (fingers crossed) as though they've back tracked somewhat

RayC

Unfortunately not If there was we'd be having our honeymoon in Germany at Nurburgring

Thanks for your replies
