Default Caught speeding in France

Oh well 1072 km from Montpellier to Calais, managed a nice average of 89mph when the Gendarmerie got me within site of the tunnel!

175kph in a 130 zone €90 fine nice chat about the car and a cheery wave good bye better than the English police!

Thats France to add to my German and English speeding fines now, getting a nice collection

that's 108.5 mph in an 80 mph limit. At least you get away with it so to speak over there, if you got caught doing 28 mph over the limit here you'd be up in court Even the fine wasn't big by the sounds of it

175kph in a 130 zone €90 fine
Did THEY tell you the speed they had you at?

French fines can be massive and are generally graded according to how much over the limit:

Speeding, but not by much. After complaints about the new speeding fines introduced in 2004 a comprimise has been reached for people not speeding 'too much'. For example if your excess speed is within 20kph of the limit you will only have to pay half the fine which is 68€ or 45€ if you pay within 14 days. For 20-50kph the original scheme stays i.e. 135€ and 90€ if paid within 14 days. Over 50kph the fine will be 1,500€ plus 6 points (not 4) and immediate ban if the driver has held a licence for 3 years or less. The 'white licence' is going, this permitted people who have been banned to drive backwards and forwards to work only. An extra 1000 radar traps are to installed in France in 2005.
So............6kph more and whammo! €1500 on the spot, and they escort you to a cash dsipenser/bank to get it!!

Lucky lad

Got away with a speeding fine in belgium,But they removed all the door cards and boot lining whilst jabbering to me in a bizzarre language,It was the customs who nailed me on the motorway between bruge and calais

I got done on the last stretch of motorway to calais coming home from the ring. 165 in a 130 zone as above. 2 police boxed me in and signalled me to turn off with them so i did, Only to be met by a riot van full of french police proper got worried then.

A poloiceman came up started shouting money money i only had 100 euros on me showed him it he went away came back with a ticket and my passport as had lost licence and off i went.

I hate calais the year before french customs locked me in a garage for an hour telling me i had drugs, so along came the police and the army with guns.

I really enjoy calais not lol.

I hit the top speed in my Terzo on the Ostend-Calais stretch, an indicated 148mph while following a bunch of mad bikers on a Sunday morning (11am-ish)

Looks like I shouldn't do it again

A *cough* friend *cough* drove a 900 mile route from Austria-Germany-Luxembourg-Belgium-France ending up at Calais in a whisker under 11 hours which including stopping for lunch and re-fuelling several times! So it was at least an average of 82mph over the jouney, and taking off an estimated 1 1/4 hours for lunch and fuel stops it means *he* averaged 95mph!
And thats not in a scooby, just a slow old CRV

To do this is NOT big and its NOT clever

They were targeting everyone, a couple of English and Belgian cars were there, 2 bikes popped out from behind a bridge an waved me off the toll road, they had a van and a few cars, it seemed well organised! doesnt register to look out for dark blue police vehciles

I was doing considerably more but slowed for a over taking van which saved me i think, i certainly wont go over the 170kph on that bit of road again it seems to have a reputation.

i got a recipt and the other english guys were getting the same fines, no points they were freindly, in had 10 euros left for a beer, who cares!!

I know someone caught going very quick in Holland, they made him follow the bike to a train station and told him his license would be sent to the court, if no one else can drive he has to leave the car!! fortunatly someoen else could, he has not seen his license since but got a 450 euro fine, that was doing 160mph in a 110kph

From www.livingfrance.co.uk, where someone had pasted it from a translation from a French newspaper.
