Has anyone successfully bought anything on Ebay? I've tried over ten times now and each time the bidding goes crazy in the last few minutes with offers that are ridiculous.

yep and sole several items.
Bit of a tip:
Workout what the maximum you want to bid for the item is - then 5-10 seconds from the end bid your maximum buying price.
If it goes over - then it's more than you wanted to pay for it anyway.

Like BlkKnight said, I put on my max bid in the last 30seconds. If I'm bored I sometimes put in a bid of 80% of my max bid when I find the item to show I'm interested and to put it in the Items Winning section of MyEbay.
Best to make a budget and stick to it though. Those last few minutes can get frantic.

First rule of ebay is never buy anything, only use it for offloading all the stuff you don't want anymore.
Most things on there are overpriced rubbish which you could get cheaper brand new if you knew where to look.
Good place to make some easy money for stuff you have no need of any more.

I disagree!
I picked up a 3com 4400 48 port managed switch for about £300 - they still trade for £1300 + vat
Also picked up some obsolete server parts which the dealer wanted to charge an arm & a leg for.

Its hit and miss tbh.Loads of stuff go's for prices near what you can get in a reasonable sale at a normal shop but there are some good deals. They dont always go up in the last seconds either.
Just dont get too attatched to an item.

Supplementary question. So you're outbid. Message says you might still be winner if superior bidder drops out. So how do you withdraw your bid if you want to forget it and move onto something else? DL (still a novice )

because then any other buyers dont have time to re-think if they were really prepared to pay more.
