Are these cars made to split under impact?

Nope. That's why firemen carry such big scissors.

Jesus! That's gotta hurt, must have been going a fair old lick! Any idea if they survived? Looks doubtful

Yikes that looks nasty. I dont think they're designed to split in half like that, its just that as with all fast good handling cars, when it all goes wrong, your usually going so damn fast that its going to be pretty destructive.

Obviously anyone in the back would not have survived . However, the front, and more importanty, the drivers side has kept it shape. Whatever happened, it must have 'smart' a bit.

Probably dead, looking at the pics further - most fireman worth their salt would have cut the roof off to get them out, especially it being a Ferrari!

No car is built to withstand the type of impact that car looks like it suffered. If it hit the end of that substantial metal barrier sideways and at speed..... very nasty.
