Question Does a LPG conversion affect second hand prices?

A mate of mine has been offered a 1990/J Plate Range Rover which is in reasonable condition. It has a petrol engine but has also been to converted to run on LPG.

Therefore, will the value of the car be more than usual or does it remain the same? What sort of price should he be looking at? I haven't a clue.

Yes and no, depends alot on the condition of the older Range Rovers, so many have been converted.

Certainly makes it more saleable.

Almost bought a 94 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 high output at the auction, 38k with 18 Jeep service stamps, 1 owner !!! Went for 2k, would have been a nice motor to convert.

It depends on which model of car has been converted and by whom. RR conversions are popular and generally are done to a higher standard than other vehicles I've seen mainly because they are straightforward to convert and there is plenty of experience with them. Personally, with a converted Range Rover (provided it's been done correctly) I doubt it would affect residual values either way but if it was an Impreza for example, I'd expect to see a significant impact on the residual value due to the greater complexity and lack of general experience in converting them.

I have first hand experience of this trying to sell an lpg powered car the general concensus from most people is that you have a bomb in your boot waiting to blow up

I ended up selling the car and keeping the lpg kit for the next one !!

I run my leggy turbo on lpg and when i fill up it costs me £20 for 230 miles i don't understand why more people don't do it to scoobs just think how much you could save in a year!!

Even with a modern system with gas injection you would get change from 2k

you could burn that in 3 months

se lots of rangies though cos they are shocking on petrol

2K, bit pricey for shed?

You cannot drive an LPG car / van etc, to france via the channel tunnel.
Are they allowed on ferry's?

I would have thought they would increase a car's value after all it's about 1k to 1.5k for conv. ?

Yes, LPG powered cars are allowed on Ferries. It's a silly situation really given that your average shed dragger probably has as much, if not more LPG being towed behind the car.
