Construction Standards - South East Asia
Serious question guys, I can't divulge into why i need this info but i can guarantee it is official (check my profile if your curious). I ask on here due the wealth of knowledge usually provided on scoobynet.
Does anyone know of, or know where i can get the construction standards (ie their version of bulding regs, BS etc) for the following countries:
Maldives
Thailand
Indonesia
Sri Lanka
Need to know by tomorrow

Bit late for today** but try some of the bigger engineering consultants like WS Atkins, Howard Humphreys (?) etc who work out in those regions. You could get their names from Institute of Consulting Engineers or whatever their Association is called (Google). UK Govt Overseas Development Agency (called something slightly different now) may also advise as they draw up specs for UK funded work in those sort of places.
Or just use UK regs if in doubt.
You could also try Institute of Civil Engineers and similar. Does Notts uni have a decent library? In the circumstances, which I am guessing, I would think they would all offer top cooperation. PM me if you need any other suggestions. DL
** But an hour on Google will help and you can get out urgent e-mail requests requesting a reply by mid-morning tomorrow. Good luck.

thanks david
done google - not much help
will try the others, plus i still have our own technical library to scan through yet as well
if all else fails we will probably apply british standards etc - they are usually much higher and we tend to do that worldwide anyway.

They have an engineering section. If you catch them between coffee breaks they should have the answers.
As you say though I am sure British Standards are more than adequate with a bit of common sense for local materials/customs and above all the time frame. David

Friend of mine works for them but she's in the West Africa section IIRC.
British Standards might help but my father was an architect in the LCC, GLC and then LRB for about 30 years, and yet was utterly stunned by the building styles when he came to Portugal, where everything is concrete-framed and earthquake proof. In those areas you have earthquakes, tropical hardwoods, warm seawater, etc etc, none of which the UK is used to. I wouldn't have a clue where to start but if David says DFID have it, go there.
One other thought, but a bureaucratic one - Asian Development Bank? I'd imagine they finance a lot of construction work, like schools and hospitals and airports, though not sure if they'd have the standards themselves or if you'd have to go via six intermediaries to get them. And unless they have a European office, you're losing out with the time difference.
