No guarantees of course, but for the long term, Apple may be worth a look.

iPod sales still screaming along, plus rumours of a $500 iMac to capture those consumers caught by the iPod brand and who want a PC which has the same 'feel'. Also, Macs do tend to be less affected by viruses given the lower user base of OS X.

If a $500 iMac does come along, could see a Apple's fortunes on the rise again.

More generally? Dow does seem a bit overbought in the short term. We were at 10000 in November, and are now at 10800 so have seen a 8% rise in 2 months. Probably see a slight rise in the New Year followed by a fallback IMHO. I would suspect we'll break 11000 sometime in the first quarter of 2005 though.....

FTSE to hit 5000 in 2005? Who knows. Again, has had a strong rise in the latter half of 2004, so could see a bit of consolidation in the short term.

Biofuel Corporation and Warthog.

Biofuel is an alternative fuel made from ripeseed. Currently building two large processing plants in the north of england. The large boys are starting to buy into this stock.

Warthog is a software company who got into trouble when they bought another company. Just offloaded it and the stock is recovering. Bought mine at .4p early December, just starting to come upto 1.5p.

Pay your money you make your choice.

I work for Travis Perkins Builders Merchants as a branch manager and as a result was offered a SAYE scheme ( Save as you earn ).

I was offered shares at 20% less than market value at the time and agreed to buy $50 per month over 5 years, plus they would give me a $375 bonus for fulfilling the 5 year scheme. I bought the shares for $5.68 per share and would save 3k + 375.00 bonus, at the time, the full value of $3375 worth of shares was allocated to me.

The shares today are worth $17.33 each at close today - Not a bad increase.

So, for an outlay of $3000 over 5 years, I will, if sold today, total $10311.35
ith a profit of $7311.35.

TP has just purchased Wickes for $950 million and released 5 million shares last week on general sale at $15 per share, these were bought. I believe, in 1 day....!

Our chairman, Frank McKay, has forecast that by the time my shares mature in approx 18 months, they could be worth in excess of $25 each....!!

Worth a look defo.

Skoosh.

ps: have a look at the website: www.travisperkins.co.uk

I bought a load of TP shares mid July 2004 for our share club in work.

We are all currently sat back watching the TP prce rocket upwards. Also heard a rumour that these could peak around the £22-25 mark.

Speculative one, these are around £2.20 a share, company valued at £50M without actually finding or producing oil yet, currently has around £20m in cash still to invest and fund drilling/production. Announcements due soon regarding data and drilling should see a very nice profit Company website is www.imperialenergy.com Look under 'projects' for details of fields they own.

You takes yer chance.....

Hehe....gotta love the drilling/exploration shares! Very very volatile, and move on rumours all the time. Big gamble though.......a 'find' can be hyped up, and then the results show not a great 'find' and the price tumbles.

Been there, seen it, bought the t-shirt, but luckily only a few hundred

Just FYI!

Google P/E = 231
Apple P/E = 90

Both quite high!

HP for example has a P/E of 18.
Dell = 34
IBM = 21

Makes HP look undervalued!

Agreed! Hence my "you takes yer chance...."

But then some do very nicely as well eg-Cairn Energy

Wouldn't invest my mortgage in one, but then again, you have to speculate to accumulate, building society savings book is just boring!

Thanks for mentioning Cairn - thought really hard about buying some when they dropped dramatically in Dec '03. But I didn't. And they were trading something like 200% up a few weeks ago.....

If you want to read about how spread betting itself works, download the manual from a spread betting website such as this one :

Bought Black Rock Oil (2.2p) on Christmas Eve with a hope that the well they're drilling just now is successful - the Share Price had a 42% increase on New Years Eve so it's looking good for positive news on Tuesday morning
My other tiddler Matrix Comms had a 40% rise on Christmas Eve - long term holder on this one with results in the near future.
I'd suggest a few of the small Oil Co's - Desire Pet, Northern Pet amongst others..
