i live in a lovely part of sheffield (outskirts)
however the most frightening thing is that the 3rd month living here, a copper knocked on our door about 5am, a household had 2 cars nicked,
no break in whatsoever, the owners hang the keys somewhere near the front door, and the people fished the keys out,
you'll expect people to actually watch tv and know these things already (tv program about these a month b4)

Its very difficult to advise you; there are some very nice parts of the city; Ecclesall and Totley/Dore but theyre very expensive. It might be easier of you suggest a place and we can tell you what its like.
Sheffield cleared massive slums before and after the war; as a result its covered in extremely large council owned housing estates. Many of them were nice once but thats not always the case now; and some are like Bosnia.
Most rented accomodation seems to be geared up towards students; there are two universities in Sheffield. As mentioned already; theres a lot of shared and bedsit accomodation on Abbeydale Rd but its ****e. Areas like Nether Edge are a mixture of the above and it can be all right. Ecclesall Rd up towards Hunters Bar is better and nicer the further out of town you go. By the time that you get to Greystones the terraced houses are damned expensive so its fair to assume that the rented accomodation is better too. Dont go to Pitsmoor/Burngreave whatever you do; youd be better off on the dole wherever you live now. On the whole; the SW of the city is nicest.

i'm gonna be working in Attercliffe which i've been told is a bit of a sh*thole. I use to own a scoob but no more so no probs with parking. I have a car so moving a bit out of the city is no problem. I've been given a relocation allowance so ideally i want a place for less than £600 per month. i've looked at some flats by the canalside in the city centre- is this a good area??

Hi, I work in Attercliffe, it is a dive, but safe in the daytime!
If I was buying a house in Sheffield, I'd love to live in Totley, Beauchief, Ecclesall Rd South, Dore or out towards Hathersage/Bamford.
Also, as an alternative, I would buy a house in Barnsley (yes there are some nice areas - Barugh Green etc) or Penistone, as it's only a short hop to Attercliffe down the M1!

how many rooms you need?
1-2?
then try leadmill, westone,
(you may be lucky and have secured parking too)
wanna buy one to let once, but was too expensive
posh appartments
it may be noisy at night though, as i think students are not far from there,
and about 2 minute drive to attercliffe

Agree with coopers on this one,
Look towards the north side of sheffield-You have
oughtibridge-lived there for 25 years, bugger all crime and no chavs!
deepcar-very easy access to the motorway and no crime
stocksbridge-originally built around a steel works, some very nice propertys floating around at good money
bolsterstone-dore or totley spec living without the"oh! Im up my own **** toff gits" that look down their nose's at you
worrall-great little village, quiet but not cut off from the rest of the world
And you could reach attercliffe within twenty minutes from all of them
mark

From upmystreet.com for Attercliffe
Type 51: Single parents and pensioners, council terraces
(1.83% of the population live in this ACORN type)
Likely Characteristics
Many towns and cities will have some neighbourhoods of this type, but concentrations are found in Newcastle, Sunderland, Belfast, Liverpool and Greater Manchester.
Family Income : Very low Interest in current affairs : Very low
Housing - with Mortgage : Very low Educated - to degree : Very low
Couples with Children : Low Have satellite TV : Low
crime statistics are per 1,000 population
Theft of a motor vehicle offences : Sheffield-7.8 National Average-4.5

That was for Attercliffe, try putting in other places your considering, if you skim past the adverts its a really good site

Around here is High Green then over into Barnsley there's Howbrook, Wortley and lots of other nice small villages. Never had a problem with crime really and close to the M1.
Meadowhall / Attercliffe is litterally 5 minutes from here (quicker in the sccoby )
Houses are so much cheaper than the south of Sheffield too!

Id totally overlooked the area North of Sheffield; High Green; Grenoside; Oughtibridge, Deepcar & Stocksbridge can all be nice. For £600 a month you will be able to rent pretty much anything though.
I didnt know that there were any 'Canal-side' apartments; there are a lot built next to the river near to Neepsend Lane and Corporation Street..... Handy for crack 'hos mind (BJ £5 I understand) and separated by one road from the back of Burngreave, mentioned earlier.

Bernard road is Park; although the area name is virtually forgotten now. Heeley used to be ok; but that was a long time ago; I wouldnt consider it now. Its extremely close to London Rd/Abbeydale Rd which has already been mentioned. The development that you mentioned is nice; but as soon as you leave the grounds its less salubrious. Ive lost count of the number of similar 'city centre living' type developments there are in Sheffiled now and any one of them would be nice; its common to rent you the parking space seperately though so watch out as theres no where to park.

i heard good things about there, BUT never been there myself,
at the end of the day its best if you went round to some of these places, and have a feel, to see if you are comfortable with the area
