Bloody hell at £240 a month I'm surprised you didn't do it without the aid of this new years lark.

Best of luck to you, it'll be worth it!

Doesnt matter when you give up smoking, you will only stop if you REALLY want to.Ive stopped 3 times for about 5 weeks each time, then stupidly started again! Patches are the best way to go,these defently take the cravings away. You need to use these for about 6 weeks lowering the dose every few weeks, then its down to willpower.(which i havent got a lot of )

Tried to stop a few times but its a pain in the backside when all your mates smoke and offer you **** all the time. Easier to carry on smoking sometimes.

Lost count of times I said I'd quit over last 7 years but exactly 2 years ago I did it for good and only had ¼ of a tab (extremely drunk ), 1 cuban & 1 hamlet since (special occasions)

Like has been said you have to REALLY want to give up and not just do it for the sake of making some kind of New Year's resolution

Also doesn't help if majority of your friends/family smoke either... too much temptation to start back again like I did many times and even the passive smoking too.

Another thing to try if you can't give up straight away is cut down to just smoking when going out drinking (if you do a lot of that) and stop while at work or home, then cut back to just weekends etc. You'd still be better off stopping altogether but if your not gonna quit might aswell try and cut back slowly

well, im well into my second day of being a non smoker. my girlfriend smokes(a lot!), as do all my mates and colleagues. yet its not bothering me anywhere near as much as i thought it would, honest, im suprised!

ive got patches, but havent used them, been using these chewing gum things instead, about 5 a day. they seem to take the edge of things, and dont give me weird dreams and indigestion like the patches did when i gave up before( quite a few years ago, and only managed 6 weeks).

but this time,so far so good. first thing i thought of when i woke was having a ciggie, but had a cuppa instead. breathing feels a bit easier, less out of breath already. i feel confident about this, and so far , its going well and im saving money. cushty

Keep it up! Imagine the regrets if you start again, get terminal lung cancer, not seeing your kids grow up, your wife mourning you but in the end meeting someone new (*ucking them) and that fella being called 'Daddy' by your kids...Imagine all that and you won't need the chewies

The first 2 weeks is the worst, if you've got the will power to get through that then you should be ok.

I didn't go out for nearly a month when i gave up as all my friends thought it funny to offer me a ciggie.

I do still get cravings for one 2 years on but i find all i have to do is have one drag which makes me feel sick! End of problem!!!

I bet that really helped. Lucky for me most of my mates don't smoke and the

wifes given up as well. Also putting £5 a day away that will soon mount up.

You have done well so far, stick with it, every day without makes you that bit stronger as I found out.

You told us the advantages-keep remembering those, might stop you having to have the operation I had last year too-its no joke!

Since I stopped I was able to get much better cars too, well worth for that as well.

well, another day goes by, still havent had a ciggie, and dont want one either.

spent the day cleaning the house, getting rid of ashtrays, getting rid of smoke smell. still feel really confident about this.

heres a trick i learnt years back. fill a jar with ash and *** butts, fill with water, put a lid on it, and let it stew for a day. next time you crave a ***, take the lid off, take a big lung full and see if you still wanna ciggie
these nicorette chewing gums are great too. using about 5 per day, so still saving money compared to b&h. less out of breath too, fantastic.

Went cold turkey from new years day, first few days were fairly hairy, but have been fine since, don't really have any cravings any more. IMHO, patches make the process harder, as you are still getting a dose of nicotine!

I too gave up - But i did it on about the 2nd or 3rd of January. (still had about 20 **** left after midnight on 01/01/05!) Feeling really good for it TBH. The thing i enjoy the most is not waking up in the middle of the night coughing my guts up or waking up in the morning with a mouth like the bottom of a parrots cage!!!! lol

What helped me most is that my Mum and I live together and we have both given up, so we were pretty much constantly at each others throat for about 2 weeks, lol

So from going from 20 a day to nothing is not that bad going in my opinion and am quite chuffed with myself! My mates are non smoking so i suppose its easier for me when i go out etc.
