Just posted another thread on this.
Mine completes "uploading to server" then tells me the subscription has expired! (which it may well have done in all fairness).
Renewed online but still the same problem....

If you read the instructions... it says:
(1) When you first switch it on, it may take up to 45 minutes to find your location and display your speed. It will take 1 - 2 minutes to find your location the next time you switch it on, but ONLY if the internal battery is fully charged.
(2) It will take around 4 hours to charge the internal battery.
(3) It will not warn about forward facing gatsos or rear facing truvelos (i.e. ones for traffic travelling in the opposite direction)
(4) it will take 24 hours to register your road angel, I would guess it involves someone enabling something ... the website says: "Please note: You may experience delays with your Road Angel activation during the Xmas Period
due to the office closures for bank holidays. "
Don't ask me what the rest of the manual says, I chucked it in the bin after I skimmed the important bits.

Give them a chance people, they are a good piece of kit, as said read instructions carefully, they will not update from the database if the GPS is activated,I always forget as i use mine with the pocket pc as sat nav and forget to switch it off before an update.

I updated my purchased from halfords on sunday one last night as they confirmed my registration.
It probably took over an hour for it to actually complete the update. A lot of the time the update screen appeared to have hung, but I just left it working away and it fixed it.
I hope it doesn't take that long for subsequent updates.
Think I'll get the laptop out and give the GPS signal to mapping software a bash at the extended weekend. Anyone else tried that yet?

I was getting "Subscription Expired" but now it doesn't even get that far...... it hangs at 33% "Uploading Personal Data" (I hope not! ) and then eventually comes up with "Cannot Connect to Internet"
Yeah right....
Beginning to get tetchy now.....

Mine stayed like that for about 10 minutes, now it is
Communicating with server... 0% and
Total progress 45%.
I have a funny feeling that their "server" is a 386 machine running windows 95 with a 3600 baud modem. Maybe someone forgot to press the "turbo" button before they left for the Christmas holidays?

This has happened before and they fixed it the next day if I recall. The problem I have is that I can't even tell whether they have processed my renewal or not because it won't even get far enough to tell me!
I suggest you disconnect your unit and give me the vital bandwidth!
They are getting a call tomorrow with some unwelcome but very necessary IT advice!

Another one who's just got one at Halfords for the bargain price. I managed to download the USB software last night - via a 56k modem which seemed to take forever. Would have tried to refresh the locations, but wanted to go to bed. May try tonight if I ever get away from w**k

I think they need a bit of a rocket up their **** to be honest! It looks likes their infrastructure is completely overwhelmed with people trying to register/update units they got for Xmas etc.
It took them about 36 hours to process my renewal (it may have been a bit sooner but I got no email to confirm it had been done and I couldn't get the update to even get as far as the bit where it tells you if the subscription has run out!)
It took 2 attempts this morning (one at 06:00 which failed and another at 10:00 which took 20mins!) to get it to finally update.
To be fair I've only had one problem in the year I've had it (when their server seemed to be down) and that was fixed the next day. But from the way it is behaving now it looks like they have sold more units than their update server can cope with!

ive registered mine about 5 times now cos i thought i would get a confirmation email and i didnt.....whats wrong with common curtesy
oh you know the bit where it tells you to charge for 4 hours, can it be done in dribs and drabs, or is like a phone where you weaken the batterey if not charged up properly
i am getting really pissed of now. thay knew they were selling the units off, and should have made provision for the extra customers over xmas, tried to ring them this morning.........answer phone
