Remember all the 9/11 jokes and the Morecombe bay cockle picker jokes as well. Terrible things to happen but also probably better not to get too depressed over it as well.

I seem to recall we had a mojor incedant back in 2000 in india with thousands killed in a earthquake. very little mention of it now??
unfortunatly these disasters happen, and will continue to happen.
any incedant on the aisan continant will always have large scale casualtys due to the indemic population in the area.
I agree its tragic, but life will go on, and this time next year, something new will have taken its place.
I have made a donation to help, unfortunatly there is not much else i can do.
jokes will occur, its one way to deal with it..

As someone that was directly involved in the Lockerbie disaster I really don't find them amusing at all, I'm not being a spoil sport but when you have seen first hand how a tragedy has an affect on people you realise that it aint funny at all ! Comedy is not about tragic loss of life.
I've donated to the relief fund have you ??
Nuff said me thinks.
And i'm not directing the donation bit at anyone.

I've donated a small amount.
It's not good enough (IMO) to just say "ahh **** em I've paid my taxes, let the government sort it out".
I got a £500 Christmas bonus from work so why not send some of it...
(Im not having a go at you Scoobfan) Just my point to make.
Still had enough left to buy a couple of HDD's at stupid pc world prices hough.

The problem is mate where do you draw the line, you get hassled every
day walking the town by people from various charities wanting your money.
It makes me angry when you see how much is being spent on arms etc
when our schools are crumbling our hospitals are dirty and we have homeless
people on our streets.
OK rant over.

I don't give to every charity as i walk down the street either as i'm sure most people don't, We tend to give to what makes us tick, If you know what i mean. My point was there is no need for posting alledgedly funny text messages on here, There will be a lot of people unfortunatley caught up in all this from the UK, and from my experiance it is far from funny, hearing or recieving 'jokes' about tradgedy's.

I have to admit iv'e had various text messages with regards to:
911, Moorcombe bay, Boscastle, and iv'e laughed.
That said it doesn't make you a bad person, if it does i'm guilty !!

I have no intention of donating any money other than that of my taxes. From what I have watched on the telebox (thanks bbc news 24) there are real concerns that large proportions of the massive worldwide donations will not reach their intended destinations - but may line the pockets of the 2nd/3rd world governments they are going through.
Then the stories of the salaries Oxfams fat cat bosses earn puts me off a little bit further. Then the fact that massive populations living on massive fault lines means Im going to have to keep donating every year to another disaster puts me off a tad more. Then there's the millions dying in Africa every year through starvation from drought / dumb *** political wars etc...
Charity is a very personal thing. People dont score more points for donating, nor do they deserve to be castigated for not doing...
