Santa has been too generous... problem
Ok peeps, got a problem here.
Basically I broke my laptop and claimed on the house insurance (honest damage)
It was passed to a company that dealt with such claims on behalf of the insurance company and basically they had it for three weeks and then sent me a form to pay the excess. I phoned up because I wanted it sooner rather than later. Basically gave em my card details and told em to deliver to work. No laptop turned up on due date so I rang em up and harranged them and they said I hadnt paid the excess. So I shouted some and they apologised and I paid again. Got home and there was a parcel at next doors, ie the laptop they should have delivered to work. Thought no more about it and blow me, another one turned up at work on Friday.
So now I have problem, I have two brand spanking laptops for £100 Problem is where do I stand with the second one, as they have taken payment for two.
Any advice welcome

Hold onto it for a bit, leave it at your neighbours or something. I think after three months you have the right to keep it, but don't quote me on that.

Puff's right, once the dust settles after Christmas someone will work out what happened and ask you to return one of them.

Which will be a bit tricky if you've sold it!

Phone them, tell them what has happened and you have two. Ask them to arrange collection of the extra laptop.
Then sit back and think what it would be like to, a) end up in court on theft charges, and b) be blacklisted by all the insurance companies,
You know it could turn very bad if you keep it. No car or house insurance, how would you manage?

This happened to my missus.
Ordered some stuff (can't remember what) and came back one day to find a box sat on our patio containing a 32" telly, which was not what she ordered although it had her address on it. She was also not charged for this item.
Phoned to company to get them to come and collect it and deliver what they should have. "OK, yeah yeah" etc. Tells them the TV will be where they left it.
Next day, come home to find proper order sat ON TOP OF THE TELLY !
Phone again to come collect TV...........no collection as arranged
ditto 2 days later.
So, having informed them of their error and arranged for them to collect 3 times we still had a TV sat on our patio.
In the end I got so pissed off at it being sat there I set it up for the kids in their study to play their PS2 on. Does that make me a crim ?

No John because you made them aware of their error and allowed them to rectify it but they chose not to do so. Sometimes it costs more than the value of the goods to rectify a problem, so they let it lie.
The important thing to do is to give them the chance and the opportunity to do so but then if they chose to take no action, then that is their own problem.

i had the same problem with a well known dept store a few years back.
basically ordered a washer dryer, and it arrived with a scratch on the front. called them up and in the meantime put the washer dryer in the spare room, no as not to bring attention to it, as they said they would deliver a new one (nothing about collecting the old one)
anyway, got my mum to house sit for the arrival of new one and low and behold they never asked for the old one back.
one can of spray paint and 5 years on, its still going strong at my folk's house!!!

Puff is right. This happened some years ago at work. We ordered some fairly expensive network gear. Nothing turned up, so we chased it. Eventually we ended up with two deliveries and we were left in the same position. We had to contact the supplier and let them know. Nothing ever happened. In fact, we called them 3 times. My boss said ' stick it in the store room for 3 months' - which we did. When they failed to collect it, we used it! I seem to remember that after 6 months or so, the goods become yours - but you must give them the opportunity to collect the goods.

Make sure you tell them you now have two, do not offer to post it back, tell them they should arrange collection, keep copies of all the paperwork. See what happens, but do not attempt to defraud, you could be lucky, or not .......... if not your in the sh*t.
