****SPOILERS BELOW****

IFSA has, "applied the following disciplinary measures:

A) A disqualification of Mr. Pudzianowski's results in the World's Strongest Man 2004 including forfeiture of all prize money, ranking points, and associated recognition.
B) A one year suspension from competition."

WTF...
Like they dont all do it..

he looks a bit handy

afaiac, worrying about drugs in this 'sport' is pointless, its just a bit of fun,and although there is money to be made,so what? I take performance enhancing drugs at work everytime i have a cup of coffee

its now a family tradition watching this every year, although it was sad last year when one of the guys died.Did that have anything to do with drug intake?

from what i understand the TV companies pulled out due to 3/4 people dying now with heart problems in there 30's.

So the IFSA has brought in a drugs policy now banning loads stuff they all use. Now,using pudzianowski makes joe public think they are actaully being serious about if ****ing over there golden boy.

Now, im very interested to see if he had failed if he had won this year and not come 3rd. Interesting to see as he destroys his heat but IIRC he tears his skin off his hand. which is painful because i cant training because of that now had blood all over the barbell last week very painful and wont heal!

you can be the strongest person in the world, but means nothing without grip!

bloody hell he did raise the game for everybody though. he was very strong and used to be way ahead of all the others. but he did bring in the importance of being in very good shape and working much more on cardio, whereas before they all used to be big and fat, whereas him he didn't have abit of fat on his body hes solid muscle!

I really look forward to this show every year, but I get a bit of stick for watching it! Great entertainment IMHO and it fascinates me seeing what you can push the human machine to do, regardless of "enhancements" or not.

Glad to see they've actually introduced some cardio stuff like the wrestling & the sprints/drags with the weights. Hopefully anyone interested in the "sport" will see that you need a big heart & lungs as well as huge muscles.

and some luck, as iirc they drug test 2 at random out of the 12 finalists, giving each a 17% chance of getting busted.

i will be pessamistic and suspect in pudz's case, it wasnt so random, and was because of rumor of him starting his own strongman organization.

sprints/drags with weights have always been part of wsm. the wrestling was interesting. it's ALWAYS been about cardio too tho, which is why pudz had regularly won in the past - his static strength is nowhere close to some of them. his all-round ability and lack of any major weaknesses is what has given him the edge.

why dont they just drug test everyone in it, or at least all finalists, then there would be no doubt?

I realise you need strong cardio to lift any heavy weights, the trouble for me is most people would never see any competitors in this sport as "fit". At least thesedays they actually look like athletes .

That bloke doing the splits at the end of the Atlas Stones lift made my eyes water though

Because, probably everyone would fail and they'd have no competition

I guess it depends on how people view "drugs". When is something a drug and not a supplement? I've been brought up to view drugs as cheating, yet any sports trainer will happily tell you what supplements you should take to maximise your potential.

How do you distinguish between someone relying on a normal diet, someone adding say a protein powder or creatine powder to their diet or someone injecting a steroid ??

If all are readily available to all competitors then does anyone have an unfair advantage over someone else ??

spot on! they're all on heavy amounts of drugs now. if they drug tested them all, there'd be no event. or if there was, you'd see a whole different bunch of guys there, lifting about half of what they lift, and nobody would bother watching it, cos it wouldn't be particularly freakish.

well, the simple view is: if its on the banned list, it's illegal. otherwise its a supplement. the governing body of the spot decides what it wants banned. personally tho, i dont think anything should be banned.

exactly - and a LONG time ago in the olympics, it was viewed as cheating if you actually practised at the event!!! where do you draw the line? do you allow vitamins? what about people who are diabetic - are they allowed to use insulin? what about other medical conditions?

If all are readily available to all competitors then does anyone have an unfair advantage over someone else ??
its the only way. sure it may become a case of who's willing to pump themselves full of the most drugs.. but thats only part of it. the average joe on the street, given boat loads of drugs, would still not win wsm. it still takes training, food, dedication and natural ability, no matter how many drugs you use.

what pisses me off is people say mariuz is just the chemical wonder kid.

But end of the day you can have as much drugs are you want, but to take the pain he does is incredible. Also grip doesnt come in a needle

Yep, totally agree. You need to have the physical ability and fitness for any sport, but whether you win or fail is 99% mental attitude. Your mind will give in far quicker than your body. Pain is just a fail-safe measure to stop it doing serious damage. You just need to train your mind to push your body that bit further. Feckin easier said than done though

I remember doing a circuit session in the Marines and the PTI (nutcase from Dundee) brought in a blackboard with the workouts listed on it. Once he'd talked us through it, he turned it around and it read "Pain is a sensation. All sensations are there to be enjoyed" At that point we all looked at each other and thought "oh ****! this is going to be a beasting from hell".

Sure enough it was, but you've got to look at the funny side of it. Sadistic barsteward that he was
