Nah, I don't get the watch thing at all.

I've had my Sekonda from Argos for four years and I wear it for work, play, diy, while showering, swimming, gym, etc. etc. and it still tells the time OK.

About £40 I think.

I will go and blow £10k on hifi though.

Each to their own.

Cheers

Same reason I don't buy Ferraris - being financially independent is more important to me.

Of course, then there's the whole ghastly Barratt-executive-home-with-BMW-X5-outside chaviness of sparkly watches

See I disagree, it totally depends how the person is dressed too.

I very much dress down, scruffy (albeit designer expensive scruffy) but the watch always tells people I'm not actually on the dole or about to rob them

Nowadays the people that wear what you call expensive are the same people who wear flip flops? Good enough reason?

Actually expensive watches, and I'm not talking about the cheapos' banded about in here on a regular basis are still out of reach of many wannabee Rothchilds.

The playing field just gets bigger.

Well I must be up **** creek then I don't wear a watch, I wear trainers 99% of the time I wear shoes, and normally a pair of Levis and a $15 Gap shirt.

Nobody seems to think I'm about to mug them Nobody gives me any hassle either. Nice and anonymous, just the way I like it.

Only if you have the receipt because to 99.9% of people or maybe even 100% of people, without close inspection, good fakes are indistinguishable.

Because I can't afford everything I want and I have to make choices. So far there have always been things higher up the list of things I'd like to buy myself than an expensive watch

Does anyone believe those adverts that say "you can tell a lot about a person by their watch"?

I personally don't think you can tell anything about anyone by their material possessions

Nice one Yoza. I'll be buying an expensive watch for me or mine just as soon as I have the spare cash.

Because there are more important things in life to spend that much money on.

Because people buy them to impress others, I'm above trying to impress other people in that way (i.e. not vain)

Sweeping statement central.

I am sure that does apply - to "some".

Birds can spend a fortune on jewellery that does nothing but bling. My Breitling can remind me when to take the turkey out of the oven, and, in emergencies, can get me liked by others when my personality lets me down

Now stop showing off - none of you are rich enough to be proper snobs; you would be on a much more respectable site if so; think Bentleynet!!!

That sums it up nicely.

Unfortunately lots of fairly expensive watch wearers are shouting as loud as they possibly can.

It's well deafening man innit.

I've had my TAG for 9 years and wear it all the time. It hasn't a single scratch on the face. The glass is extremely hard! It's the best way to tell a fake from the real thing.
