To be expected to be honest. Ebay is infested with chavs, dimwits, chancers, and numpties.

It's a pauper's market. If you want to get rid of all your secondhand rubbish on there, then expect to have to deal with the lowlife that live there.

It's a modern-day fleamarket.

You can do OK with Ebay if you follow one simple rule.

If anything at all looks odd, doesn't add up or is just plain weird about a purchaser or a seller walk away.

Sorry, but if someone suggests meeting with you at 1am in the morning then 9 times out of 10 it's time to sound the alarm.

Not trying to be clever, just always played it this way on Ebay and never had a problem yet?

tiggers, talked to the guy on the phone he seemed dead genuine and a genearlly nice guy, he seemed the same in person as well to be honest. he wanted to see the player working and I couldnt accomodate this because id had another fitted in my car and it wasnt the correct fitment for his, he accepted that, but then tried to pay by cheque.

left a nasty remark and negative and re-listed item. no doubt ile get a neg reply but what can I do? leave a positive?

cant rest now cus im wound up.

the stress has returned

and this is the snippet of description, anyone care to tell me where it says its in the car?

this machine came in my impreza import, I took it out soon after purchasing the car and replaced with my alpine unit.

Your feedback comments make good reading - you can see when you deal with idiots

but it does say it isn't in the car... you left -ve feedback on HIS account? I would've.

He is obviously a complete numptie - really irritating to be honest but dont stress yourself - ebay is full of them - but ebay also has alot of genuine honest people. Suggest you give him a chance to have it as described, and if he wont then go thru the procedure for recovering costs from ebay and resell it.

I take cheques all the time from ebay buyers - it's not like you don't know where they live, I think you have been a bit harsh.

...especially as your auction specifically says:

Payment methods accepted
Personal cheque
Postal Order or Banker's Draft

I know mate and in this case he probably is genuine, but the whole meeting in the middle of the night thing is not something that many people would suggest - he was bound to be eccentric at best - as it is he is obvioulsy a little hot headed hence the negative feedback.

Deep breath, big smile - at the end of the day it's only a few quid on listing fees you've lost - think of all the mugs out there who have accepted the rubber cheque in situations like that.

tiggers.

I'd have accepted the cheque and told him to come back and pick the stereo up as soon as it's cleared.

I did do that mate, I said to him do you have a cheque guarantee card, he said no so said I wouldnt accept it there and then unless he was willing to let me allow it to clear (bearing in mind its christmas and would take about 2 weeks to clear) and then send it on to him.

the thing is, and this is the bit that really p!sses me off, we discussed this on e-mail before hand and hes rang me several times upto arriving, and he said it would be no issue to pay with cash.

its ok, ile get my own back in my own way...

lol, that didnt take long

that guy was a bloody moron. he arranged to come and fetch it, you dont buy that sort of equipment without checking it over fully.

the heli had a hard landing a few months before but it was fully serviced and all parts were replaced with a grade equipment. in the auction again it stated that it had had the work done, he just choose not to read it propperly.

you would think anyone spending that much on a single item would check the description fully

Jeez you're a future victim in the making. I'll wait for you to sell a car in the for sale section. I'll pay by cheque...

Seriously though taking cheques can actually turn you a profit, I have one buyer in Nigeria who's actually paying me more than one item is worth so I can send him a refund of the difference plus a little profit for myself

see, some people are OK to deal with !

I don't know where you met but I'd have loved to heard your explanation if the Coppers had turned up and found you with a car stereo in your hand at that time!

Naa sorry thats not good enough Your original reply was far, far, too serious for you to now claim via the subtly of the above that is was just dry humour. You're not going to weedle your way out of this one. Now about that car you're selling...

Alas - we could be onto a winner mate, apparently after a few emails back and forth from him it only turns out that he's some top Nigerian government official who has loads (and we are talking LOADS) of cash tied up in an account that he's trying to get out of the country. He said if I help him & pay some small release/handling fees up front then I can take a percentage of the cash when it's transfered out of his account, how cool is that?

It sounds safe enough especially if he's a government official, how can it possibly go wrong ? mindyou I think he may be a bit dodgy as he's asking for an extra few hundred up front to bribe the local tax man to turn a blind eye, however a few hundred is surely a drop in the ocean compared to the profit
