Default Court speeding prosecutions

The number of speeding prosecutions in magistrates courts in 2002 has become available. Clearly some of these will be people travelling too fast to get a fixed penalty but some will also be people who decided to take the system on. In these cases they lost but note that fines in the magistrates courts do not go to the camera partnerships so these figures represent £9,229,500 that the scamers didn't get! That I am aware of there are no figures for motorists who went to court and won, though that would certainly make interesting reading.

Wow, look at the figure for Essex. Much higher than all the rest.

Essex fatalities from 1997 to 2003 are:

89, 76, 106, 86, 121, 92, 116

Essex has 90 cameras, which I suspect is the highest of any county, and has seen a rise in fatalities of 25% since it joined the "cash for cameras" scheme.

Even looking at the figures I quote above, the only ones for Essex I have to hand, it is clear to see that things are certainly not getting any better and there does appear to be a general upward trend. What it clearly doesn't show is the government claims that cameras reduce accidents by 40%, or that cameras work, or that speed kills. What it clearly does show is that Essex wants into your wallet.

The problem is that Essex has such bad figures they now ignore fatalities and talk about KSI which gives them better Stats i think. also Essex Police will not admit they are wrong and instead use the continuing high deaths despite loads of speeding prosecutions to increase the number of camera's and the total focus on speed kills. if it kills how is it that 17,000 people broke the speed limit but were still alive to go to court. i think by now the Stat's should in fact prove that speeding doesnt kill as so many people are getting caught for relalitively a small number of death, considering that speeding only causes 7.3% of all deaths according to the Governments on research lab.

Yes, the KSI figures are a con trick to cover up for the fact that fatalities are increasing. There is no doubt about what constitutes a fatality and so it is a good proxy for the level of danger on our roads. However, as fatalities have increased since the introduction of cameras the partnerships need another way to hide the disaster they have created and so they are adding in the "seriously injured" figures. I have it on good authority that some police forces issued memos instructing officers on the "correct" method of recording such things. I was lead to believe that the new methods were likely to lead to a reduction in the Seriously Injured component of the KSI.

I recall that Thatcher did something similar with the unemployment figures; each month she found a new way to calculate them that seemed to give a decrease. Of course it wasn't long until the media caught on to this.

It may be that we will see some developments over the next few weeks that might attract some media attention to the manner in which the scamera system is failing. Just remember that it is people like you and me they are killing to keep their nice jobs in their nice offices in scammer central.
