Dammit, I was half way through writing a TV series called Jesus Smith - The messiah returns but no one beleives him so he ends up working as a lifeguard in a local leisure centre and part-time at the off-licence. I guess that'll be going in the bin, then

I'd call it more PR than PC .. there's surely legislation to deal with inciting religious hatred anyway?
Then again, if it saved us haveing to endure endless re-runs of 'The Vicar of Dibley' ...?

But what has "Incitement to Religious Hatred" got to do with making jokes about religion Surely making a joke about a Muslim man's funny beard/mustache combo isn't incitement to religious hatred!?

You would think that they could find adequate words to draft the law in such a way that a distinction could be made between the likes of Abu Hamza preaching hatred and a comedian making a joke? Why can common sense never be factored into the equation?

Effectively, if this law had been about earlier, this would have mean that the great film that is 'Life of Brian' would have never come to fruition.

Well we already have laws in place dealing with incitement to racial hatred but I don't see that fat racist b*stard Bernard Manning or his ilk ever being charged.

Here we go again. Read the article and tell me where it says categorically that if the bill is passed it means the end of religious comedy. I'll save you the time - it doesn't.
This is just the usual sensationlist reporting from our beloved media which gets the 'it's all gone too PC crowd' in an immediate lather as is amply demonstrated by some responses on this thread.
Regards,
tiggers.

If you really want to know what PC is, you should try doing a course of ADP. It is a right eye opener. The amount of times ppl on my course *think* or (don't think most probabley) that because I am able to articulate a reasoned and thought out question or statement, that I must hold the opinion that what I have just said is true, correct or justifible is unbeleivable... I don't think they understand the concept of, Devils advocate or have ever been able to argue both sides of a point of interest. No wonder the world is in such a mess, if the ppl I am training with are anything to go on...

"But if the Bill gets the green light, it could mean the end of religion-based jokes."
Add to that "as stated by a Sky News article" - must be true then

Must say, that article is way more sensationalist than the Beeb or lefty Muslim-supporting Gruaniad report.
Senior - we're all waiting for your educated views on improving the political system in the other thread.
blueone - woss ADP?

Can't improve it. It could be inproved but it'll never happen cos politicians rely on it....and the only people that "could" change it is them.
So, it isn't going to happen. Hence why I never posted.

Seems to me that people with the ability to read between the lines and see the agenda behind this kind of legislation are always destined to be labeled the "PC gone mad brigade" by the naive. I expect it now.

PC gone mad is real.
England in true form, following the lead of the USA in an attempt to gain an identity.
PC causes more than it solves, it makes people, normal people (non racists etc) to get p!ssed off. In turn, its the people that PC tries to "protect" that bare the brunt of the disgruntled public.
PC ***** everything right up.

Wait a minute, 29 posts and no one has blamed Tony Blair? I'm shocked, I really am. A Tory government would have ensured blame would be apportioned to Tony Blair much faster.
