Unfaithful to scoobynet?
As we all know scoobynet is pretty good, heck I'm even getting to like some of you people now I know the crack here.
However the time has come for me to change cars and although I've made up my mind 99% that I fancy a BMW330D something is putting me off.
It isn't the fact that everyone will assume I'm a w*nker (they'd be right ) or that nobody will let me in to queueing traffic, it's the people I'll have to talk to on the BMW boards I've visiited.
Here are a couple of fairly representative quotes
"Don't these people realise that selling BMW is a privelege not a right??"
"Drivers of other lesser marques don't realise just how good life is behind the wheel of a BMW"
"BMW drivers tend to be of the higher professional classes, don't they realise that we aren't that stupid. Perhaps they would be better of changing to a Ford dealership"
Previous to considering the switch I'd always assumed that the negative image of BMW drivers was all just stereotyping. Seems there may be a grain of truth in it after all.
Anyway more to the point I realise that despite the rabid *****, tree hugging do-gooders and general lunatics on scoobynet that you are not such a bad bunch after all. Unlike the heads firmly inserted into rectum BMW types on the other board. Whether you like it or not I'm staying even if I do join the "don't you know who I am? I drive a BMW" set!

some people who drive any marque car thinks like that tho.. dont let it drive your decision. a lot of people take a lot of pride in what they drive, and believe it to be the best car on the planet.
besides, its not like you HAVE to go on their forums. many of the people on scoobynet:nsr dont even drive, much less own a scooby.
i also think u could pull some choice quotes off scoobynet that are just as bad, if not worse, than those bmw quotes you've got.

Not all of the BMW set are like that, there are some grass-roots enthusiasts out there, you just need to look harder! I will concede, however, that many of them are cliquey rah-rahs who view their car as a status symbol or wear it like a fashionable handbag!

(p.s. I will almost certainly buy another M car at some point)

I also have never owned an Impreza. OK, so I've driven a few. But I always come back to Scoobynet because NSR is fun! Certain other forums are just plain boring.

Pastor,
Don't let the attitude of the minority put you off. You'll find that on the BMW boards, the empty kettles make most noise. Same as Scoobynet and almost any other board you care to visit. If you want a 330d, go for it. They're fantastic.
For insurance, try Privilege. I pay just over £450 per annum, with protected NCD and business use. Car is valued at £36k

Had a scoob, now have a 5 series.
Scoobynet is fantastic, and although it feels a little strange posting on her post classic, you will get over it. No better place to find out about anything and everything.
Scoobynet NSR is better than Google.

Not all BMW owners arec like that. There are a lot of them so you can expect a good few peculiar ones as antwhere else.
I loved my classic STi but it had to go for family reasons and I am really enjoying my M3 Evo which is an outstanding car in all respects.
I certainly don't mind admitting that I own one and neither should you. I respect cars for the way they are put together and their performance all round and the Scooby and the M3 fit the bill extremely well.

It's a natural human reaction - they degrade or make out other people to be inferior to make themselves feel more superior based on visual or typecast observations.
In short: "I'm better than you" Everybody does it, most without realising it. Scooby owners having a rant at BMW drivers are doing it. As are BMW driver, Air-cooled Porsche vs Water-cooled, Corsa's etc etc.
Ignore them, whatever you drive you'll be labelled a **** in one way or another by somebody - it's unavoidable. Just rise above it and you'll be better than the lot of them.
Buy the beamer! - Just be nice and courtious, use your indicators and turn off the foggies and proove them wrong!!

Pastor,
It's not just BMW's. You'll find a lot of Impreza owners who are just as ****. As others have said, it's the same for every marque, there will be some who really do think their car is the best on the planet and no other can better it.

I joined the MX5 forums but it just wasn't the same after Pete Lewis got banned
Anyway, 330D's rock, having experienced MattOz's old one at the 'Ring I wouldn't hesitate to own one

Pastor, sadly, BMW make very good cars. I had a lot of fun in a 120d recently (until I found out how much it costs - Jeez ) and the new Minis are great.
But the 330d...? It's just SO a sensible car.
You're in dire need of a mid-life crisis, mate
Richard.
