Default Fixed penalty for parking facing the wrong direction?..

I got issued with a 30quid fixed penalty in Chichester last week for "being parked on a one-way street facing the wrong direction"..... however it wasnt a one-way street - there was a sign at one end, saying no entry except for loading, and I was in the works van, technically loading.

You get the option to pay within 30 days, or if you want you can dispute it in court - hardly worth a day off to fight 30quid is it?

The offence code on the ticket is BL17, anyway of checking exactly what this offence is?

Here's a list of DVLA offence codes, BL17 isn't there though Probably becuase it's non-endorseable.

Yeah Im going to contest it, however I really need to find out what the exact offence is (BL17) before I can write a letter.

Its an non-endorsable offence, and I cant find offence codes for those anywhere??

After a quick search, offences that carry the BL code appear to relate to bus lane offences?

Bus lane? Interesting, wasnt a bus lane or bus-stop nearby. Where abouts did you find that info? Must be a site with non-endorsable offence codes somewhere surely?

Write a brief letter stating where you were ie infront of ....shop or address number, name of street, what you were doing, pressumably you were unloading and would they like to look into this as the street is not one way.
You might be lucky and it is dropped. If not it could be a load of hassle. After you have sent off the first letter, double check the signs carefully at both ends of the street. If you are absolutely sure of your ground, contest it with a strong letter, putting your case, asking for it to go to court where you will be asking for your costs for a day off work etc etc.
If you are not on strong ground, get it paid and do not chance it again.

The only thing that doesnt go in my favour is youre meant to get a 'voucher' for parking on that street (can be bought from shops there, but none were open when I parked, so didnt get one)

But can the Police act as traffic wardens? When I called up the number on the fixed penalty form the women said if I write to complain it wont go to court (her words), but I really need to find out the definition of the BL17 offence before I write

hi pete

where abouts in Chi where you??

was it in the west / south street area??

it seems a peculiarity to Chi, a number of residents have had this at one time..

since they made changes to south street it has gone a bit funny..

technically from just after the crypt to the post office is not for traffic, but is a

loading area / bus lane

was it a warden or bib that gave you the ticket...

reason i ask, the wardens in chi are very fair, and would rather point out the

error of your ways and let you go... mind you they take no prisoners for

repeat offenders!!!!

Mart, it was on 'North Street' (the part of it just before the pedestion area), and the ticket seems to have been handed out by a copper.

Right got to think,,, there is technically a one way area in force, but if my mem serves me correctly this applys to the traffic round from priory park.

where it turns onto north street, is two way. the bit to the left, loading area is just part of the high st pedestrian area if i recalll, how the **** did he work out parked the wrong way??

you can drive into the pedestrian area,, loading restrictions, so you have to turn round and come out..

what time of day did you get clobbered??

i would contact the nick for clarification..
