Default My Journey from Grantham to Northampton

It only took about an hour and 10 mins to get there, so if I left the office at 4pm I would get back in time for Hollies (5 years old) important school social evening starting at 6pm with enough time to get changed etc.

The route I was taking was A52, A46, M1.

All was going rather well until I hit the A46....I noticed my petrol light was already on some miles back. Oh well, I though it would be good for another 30 miles or so.

I took a fairly important phone call and missed a petrol station...never mind, I am sure there will be another soon......oh whats this, the petrol light is now flashing!

I'll stop at the next petrol station and drive slowly I thought.......not slowly enough though I felt the car stutter as I was about 4 miles from J21a of the M1.

Fortunatly I was right on an exit skip road and I quickly pulled off, where the car conked out on the roundabout. By turning the key with the car in gear I managed to get it out of harms way on.

I tried to flag down a taxi by flashing my lights and using my horn...no luck. Called my Partner and told her I was going likely to be late.....she had a good idea to call Orange directory inquiries and get a taxi to take me to get some petrol. Before the conversation finished, my phone battery died completely So I did the obvious thing and hurled it as hard as I could against the passenger door.

More frantic flashing of light at the few taxis that passed....no luck, although I nearly stopped one but he had nowhere to stop and carried on driving. By this time it was 5.40 and I though I had better try and walk somewhere to get some petrol.

After a mile or so I luckily found a Tesco store with a petrol station...unfortunately they had no petrol cans So I wandered off to the store to buy one.

I filled the petrol can up, and walked the mile back to the car......at last I can get going again. I stopped at Leicester forest services to fill up proper for the short journey home.

Evern since the Peterborough radio mast burnt down I don't seem to have gotten regular traffic updates, so I didn;t get to hear that a lorry had rolled over at J16 (where I wanted to get off) and the traffic had queued back 20 miles to J19. No problem I can get off at J18. 40 mins later and I had travelled 3 miles to J18

Ah nearly home...just my fave country road, shouldn't be long now. I just had a couple of cars in front, and a lorry in front of them to overtake. Just in front of the lorry was Mrs. Fukcwit who only did 30mph and braked at ever corner and when ever someone came the other way

..got in at 8pm, and I am now slowly but surely getting pissed!

Thumbs down

Typical journey in Thatcher's/Blair's Britain, anyone?

Oh well, it can only get worse

BTW: set off to take wife to Nottingham, some weeks back. Journey of about 60 miles, so gave it one and a half hours. The M1 had been closed for ages due to a lorry crash, and it took 3 hours!

I think it may well have had more to do with me not getting any petrol than Blair/Thacher!

Hi, no help I know but are you from grantham? what do you drive? IMO you took the wrong route to get to northants, can be done in less than an hour A1, then turn off at the first peterbourgh junction, forget the raod name now. A507 Maybe? that takes u to the A45 and should run straight into northants usse it to get to Santa pod quite reguarlly

Yeah, but I am right over the other side of Northampton, near J16. I would guess It would take my 30 mins to the junction you are reffering too.
